Maybe "Twelve Black-Spotted" would be better but there are all sorts of creatures whose names don't match up to what they look like - especially at different seasons of the year (Ring-necked Duck, Red Knot...)

Either a Red or a Carolina Saddlebags dragonfly. I couldn't see the intricacy of the wing pattern through my viewfinder. Saddlebags Dragonfly by Steven, on Flickr

I noticed I hadn't posted this one. Flower Longhorn Beetle from last summer, taken with the Ricoh GRIII. If you can get close enough without casting a shadow or scaring the bug off, it gives you lots of depth of field. Flower Longhorn Beetle by Steven, on Flickr

Anglewings are hard but I'm pretty sure this one is a Question Mark (named after the little marking on the underside of the wing). _IMG1884 by Steve, on Flickr

Thank you Charlie - it's always nice to have some insects to turn to when the birding falls off!

I've just gone through all the wasps in my big insect book and have concluded.... I think it's a wasp. Or maybe a hornet. Couldn't find anything with those particular antennae. Sharpness of the front part isn't the best but I thought some of you might enjoy the challenge. IMGP4165 by Steve, on Flickr
