A lot of my turtle shots don't turn out well because the shell is so reflective. That duckweed certainly gets around the problem!

There seems to be a rule of nature that whenever you see a Snapping Turtle there's always someone on hand to tell you not to get too close or it might take off your finger. This one filled the frame with a 300mm lens so I think I was far enough away. |

A 300mm lens and a little cropping can work wonders. This was from a boardwalk, so that helps as well. Thought I should maybe have used a stick to move the little fleck of white stuff on the scales, but perhaps not!

Common Garter Snake. This one was quite truculent and threatened to bite rather than move off the trail - I'm told this can happen early in the year when it's cool. |
