New Sony A7II and A9 with IBIS

The K10D (and K20D) were super-solid cameras. That changed with the K-5. I also can't/couldn't feel the two-stage actuation in either of my two K-5's anymore. One of them had the lens release butten fall off. I glued it back myself. The other had the rattling mirror-thing. And then simply got lost at the Pentax repair center. (Not in the mail either, they first confirmed receipt.)

That's INSANE. What justifies that extra $1544?!

Everybody seems to say that Pentax is going to market an FF DLSR. Everybody except Pentax that is.

Why are you implying that Sony is undercutting? The A7 range is probably what's saving them at the moment:

Reuters:

And why are you assuming the A7 range is a niche product? Yah, in the conservative USA maybe, but the world is bigger.

Reuters Japan:

And what I discovered from the latest Sony release presentation:

About the mirrorless market:

And what's even more interesting:

Sony is doing something that's making people jump ship. Leaving their trusted gear.

This is only going to increase. It's not suddenly going to be cool by the end of next year to be buying grandpa-DSLRs. It'll be 20 or 30 years before DSLRs are old and forgotten enough to become 'retro' and get rediscovered.

Furthermore, I think your cash cows not being obvious is a good sing. You know, Cash Cow doesn't equal "old and obsolete, but we still sell em".

I'm a bigtime fan of lowlight and nighttime photography. Of course any camera can do that when it's stabilised and no moving subjects are in the frame. But I've seen so much wonderful results online from the A7s. It opens up a lot more flexibility.

Yes, I read that too somewhere. I assumed it was due to people subconsciously still preferring higher MP counts. Because that's how my mind worked when I got the A7r. It was released together with the A7. And I admit, I wanted that "D800 sensor". But, if I had known the A7s was just around the corner, I would have waited for that instead.

How true! I often get the feeling Sony researches on internet fora, including this one.

I just realised, what if there's going to be a A7sII too? Imagine that sensitive sensor with the new 5 axis stabilisation? Combined with a fast-ish lens that means handheld shooting soon will become possible in very low light.

Or analyse what to do next... forever.

In Holland we have a saying: If you remain exactly the same long enough, you'll be unique eventually.

A lot of doom and gloom for Pentax in the reactions here in this thread. But I think Pentax is more then merely SR. They've never been the only ones with SR, and that was never an issue for them before.

Nevertheless... I hope this will bring the price down on the A7s. Or maybe it will give some nice used A7s options. I jumped right on the A7r, not realising an A7s was on the horizon.

About SR induced blur... In my first K-5 it seemed to cause a lot of IQ degradation, even when holding it handheld but very steady. So that tought me (falsely) that SR does more damage then good. Falsely, because my second K-5 didn't suffer from it at all. Revealing that there was something wrong or that there was some sort of copy variation with my first K-5.
