Some cheap $7 fleabay item.. the soft corners are VERY noticeable on the heavy processed shot of her out front of the car.. the loss of detail around the picnic basket is hard to take.. and I was at f8... the lens is far better than that so I'm assuming the adapter had a little hand in this.. But my Tak can go back on my PK adapter and hang out for use on my old Super Program again.. my Tamron 24-70 f2.8 VC/USD has been ordered.. let the VISA bleed..

I can't remember the last time I posted in here.. especially now that I'm shooting with my D800.. BUT after some lens attrition I needed wide.. and my good old SMC Takumar 28mm f3.5 did the job.

Sure would be nice, the camera is simply a tool for capturing the image.. There's always "The Camera Enthusiast" forum that Adam had started earlier this year.. but it's pretty quiet.

Well some macro work is in order.. I have a glass-less adapter I'll throw on my 55 f2.. maybe put the 49mm Pentax Close Up Filter #1 in front and have some fun today..

Nikon's red's are pretty harsh.. but nothing shooting RAW and doing your proper PP adjustments can't fix very easily, even in a batch process.

Yes, it's actually on my list.. I would be ok with MF lens like a nice Tak.. but sometimes it's just easier to have all my EXIF data setup and AF for when I use it indoors with the kids..

Nice, I would love to track down a decent FF 35mm lens! Nikon's 35 f1.8 is for crop frame only.. guess there is the Samyang 35mm f1.4..

Maybe if you do post, just do so in a new thread and link it in here, as opposed to it taking over a series of discussion in what is supposed to be basic image sharing etc..
I would also be more interested to see at the wider end of the lens.. at 35mm I think the corners could pronounce distortion more alone and with the extra optical adapter. I know my 24mm definitely suffers at the corners and extreme edges, but it sure didn't on my K-5 being a crop sensor!

I simply didn't know they existed!
I would use the D700 since it's FF and will show IQ differences better since most glass is weaker/weakest at the corners and extreme edges..

General rule of thumb for me is shooting at base/lowest ISO, between f5.6 and f11, I generally use Live View to focus it properly... and my camera pretty much lives on it's tripod and I use a remote. Even then many of my images are bracketed (7 or 9 shots) and worked in a very light HDR style, I like contrast and saturation personally.. but each image is it's own.. depends what I'm going for at the time.

Only real comparison would be on something like a K-5 and a D7000 with the same sensor.. one with a glass adapter, one without..
even then on an APS-C you only use the center of the image circle.. lenses are strongest in the center.. it's the corners and edges that start getting soft and have more fall off, which is where it's more noticeable on my FF D800.. could be the corners are just a bit soft on the SMC Tak 28 f3.5 even stopped to f8.. or it could be the adapter.. I'd rather blame the adapter! ;)

I have an adapter that has a lens in it to make up for the registration distance.. one more low quality glass.. a slight hit in IQ, but with the D800's insane resolution I gain that back when I scale it down and/or hit up the sharpness in PP work.

I also have found one for a PK mount.. but since my ex took the K-5 and all but my 50 1.7 (I wouldn't give it to her since she never used it EVER since it was manual focus and we had the 43 Ltd..) So I'm not going to bother with a $40 adapter for just that lens when I have a 50mm f1.8D anyways..

I absolutely agree, as much as a 28-300 sounds great on paper.. the IQ isn't there in comparison.. let alone the speed.. I would hate to see what something like a 24-300 f2.8 would look like/weigh/cost if it was even possible to make!

I used to set my desired aperture and hit the green button, I also had my exposure set -0.3 EV. It worked very well for me.

I agree there are some STELLAR M42 mount glass.. and I don't mind manual lenses. But I do find they are more prone to PF/CA's and some are VERY flare prone.. which is sometimes a good thing depending on the effect your going for.
Good glass is good glass, no matter when it was made! But progression of lens design has helped being faster sharper lenses.. AF or not..
I might end up picking up a Pentax 67 mount adapter for some great long lenses.. but under 200mm the Taks are easy to come by and fantastic IQ

I couldn't agree more, I have my Tak's and love them.. or I would have let the Ex take them with the K-5! I can't wait for my adapters to arrive!

The kicker with the budget part is that ya end up buying 10-20 old lenses, when you could have bought one great lens that may serve you better.. and you have less clutter and things to clean etc..

Well I do enjoy shooting manual lenses, and I do need to really need to watch the dollars and cents.. I just can't justify spending $500 more on less of a camera, just so it can be more compatible with legacy and other mount glass.. but it sure would be nice to have AF Confirmation with PK glass like the FA Ltd's and others..

I was not about to tie myself to Canon simply because of the registration distance and using old legacy glass.. sure it is cheaper to use old glass etc.. but other than a slew of old fast 50's and 90-135mm lenses I see little use other than nostalgia and budgetary reasons for the old glass. I'm more dissapointed in not being able to throw the FA Ltd series on my D800 without more glass than any others..

No, not to infinity, not without adding another lens in the adapter.. I'll get one with and one without.. my Super Tak 55 f2.0 and 28 f3.5.. maybe even track down my old Super Tak 200mm f4.. Also considering picking up a PK adapter for lenses like my 50 f1.7 just to play around :D

I also have the 28mm Super Tak f3.5 and it renders nice rich colour as well.. nicer than the 55 f2.0
