Awesome colors! Very cool.
Excellent shots, Jay. I eat those same fruit snacks as the one in the last pic ...

Thanks. I mentioned this on Flickr, but that shot was out of focus, but the only one with no one else in the frame. I thought it was the best one, regardless.

This was a JPEG. Call me lame, but I haven't gotten around to shooting RAW with the D800 yet as files have been killing my puny cheapo Compaq laptop as it is :o
Anyway, I have been trying to not break out the focus test chart I printed when trying to alleviate my K-5 focus issues, but the more I look at the 100% of that picture, the more I want to do more fine-tuning of the focus. Her hair looks finely detailed, but her sunglasses do not. And I'm not sure if that's due to the fact that they are always filthy, or the shot was out of focus ...

TBH, my shot is SOOC (and she never cleans her glasses, etc., excuses, excuses ), and it seems like the cat shot has been sharpened in post? Either way, my lens still might not be 100% fine-tuned and I'm definitely happy with it. Anyway, not to drag this out any further, I'll leave it at that I guess
I was actually out today to take some pictures for a ramen shop she works at. They wanted some shots to show the different kinds in store and on the website. I'm sort of interested to see how they will look blown up. Nom Nom Ramen by gtxtom, on Flickr

I guess the 50 1.4G was really a dud, huh? Here's a shot of mine wide open. I focused on her eye ... glasses. I can't really find a flaw with mine. SOOC.
I'm not trying to start an argument, BTW. I know all lenses vary.
And here's another, just because. 20mm 2.8D wide open. Probably should have stopped this down a bit for optimal sharpness ... the buildings on either side look like doo-doo full size. Comcast Center by gtxtom, on Flickr

I'm sorry your 1.4G didn't work out for you, Bossa. Here are some shots from mine. I've been trying to find some cool graffiti around where I live ... Receiving Shipping ----> by gtxtom, on Flickr STORE CLOSE by gtxtom, on Flickr We aint bullshitin (sic) by gtxtom, on Flickr

Oh and I've found an immensely helpful setting for when aperture priority (I'm almost always in aperture priority. Setting d7 on the custom settings bank lets you use the back control dial to change ISO without having to hold down the button on the left.

I did some quick AF fine tuning for my lenses and both needed around +15 (I don't remember exactly off-hand, though). It seems to be set up pretty well now.
Thanks. I really like that shot as well. I've had my eye on the 85mm 1.8G recently ... Great shots.
Very nice macro shot!
I didn't think that the D800 files would affect my cheapo Compaq laptop that much since my K-5 file sizes weren't really that much smaller (both JPEG), but it's excruciatingly slow in LR4 especially when saving the files after editing ...
I took ~400 pictures this weekend and it ended up being 6.91GB - all JPEG.

Picked it up today! I have to wait until I get home to test it out though ... Good news is I charge the battery while working and set some of the menus up. D800 has arrived by gtxtom, on Flickr

I have the 20mm 2.8D waiting for my D800. It's definitely not expensive, and I'm sure it might not do that great on the D800, but I'll let you know how it goes when I get some test shots in.

I got a call today saying my D800 was in. I ordered it on 4/25/12 at Jack's Camera in Philly. He said money talks and I put a $100 deposit down. Well guess what? I was bumped up to the top since I was the only one to put money down, and it paid off. I'm not saying every store will be as honest as this, but I'm excited. I have to wait until tomorrow at lunch to pick it up. That's the sad part of this story.
TL;DR version - if a camera shop is asking for a deposit, you might get your camera faster, but do your due diligence and make sure that the shop is a reputable one.

Haha oh yea. I posted it at the end of the last page. I'll probably end up getting a D700 and a Fuji X100 as a carry around and still have ~$600 for another lens or something.
On a positive note, I called one of the places I reserved one at and they said the should be seeing 2 more on Mon or Tues and that I should be getting mine then. I hope that's true!

I think I'm going to give it until the end of May to get my D800. I think that's more than enough time. If I don't have it, I'm going with plan B.

I have been debating the same thing. I have the D800 on order (for who knows how much longer), but for around $600 less I could get a used D700 and the Fuji X100 as a walkaround which I've been eyeing up recently. That $600 could also then go to another lens ....
