Possibly? Lots of geese, cranes, and other migratory birds this time of year.

I’ve seen one in Fairbanks Alaska, last summer or two years ago I think. It was the first time I had ever seen one and I was, to put it mildly, alarmed and surprised to see a GIANT BEE looking thing in our roses. A quick google search calmed my fears and sent be scurrying for my camera but by then the thing was gone.

The National Park service in AK says stay 25yds from Moose and other big game, and 100 yards from bears.
There have been at least 5 fatal bear attacks in Alaska since I moved here in 2012, because I know of 5 in the last 3 years. Some were sows defending cubs, some were predatory; all were “wrong place, wrong time, wrong bear” situations. I know of several more close calls and maulings.
The rules in bear country as I understand it are pretty simple: Make noise so you don’t surprise them, don’t smell like food (or cologne, soap, shampoo, etc that could be confused by a bear as food), don’t go alone if you can help it (most bear attacks happen to people who are alone), and have some sort of deterrent (bear spray or a firearm) readily available on you (not in a pack or pocket) that you are proficient with.
Edit: Black bears are just as likely to view people as prey as brown bears and grizzlies, and it basically depends on what other food is around. Of the 5 death mentioned above, 3 were black bears and two were predatory. Polar bears see everything as food...

I was working a beer festival last night and since I had time after set up to walk around and enjoy myself, I pulled my KP out of the truck and got some shots of the Dry Cabin String Band's performance. First time shooting in Pentax's Hyper-Program mode, with the program line set to "MTF". I'm very happy with it!

I was spitballing some ideas to help with bright midday sun. Polarized sunglasses help with glare in the midday sun, so I was guessing it would help with strong bright points (glare) on photographs too. We don't get a lot of that here, and I rarely am able to get out and shoot during that time of day.
As far as being too harsh on oneself... I often get my wife to go through a series as she's more concerned with the overall composition where I can get hung up on the little flaws. Most of the time we agree on whats good and whats not, but often enough she picks shots that I dislike because it was a little soft or missed focus that it helps me see my own work better.

Hey norm, do you use a polarizing filter or have you considered one? There's a harshness to the birds from the extremely bright highlights, at least on my screen(s), that one might help. They're also a bit over sharpened maybe? Could be jpeg web compression too. Dunno, just thinking out loud.

Not quite 300mm, but what's 35mm after a cropping a little?
K30, DA*50-135, Tamron 2x PZAF teleconverter. I wish there was a way to get it to AF without changing firmware permanently...

Great shots! Be careful out there in case that big kitty mistakes you for a turkey next time.

I may not post here much as I do most of my work with a DA*50-135, but i also appreciate the 'current events' nature of this thread. On the other hand, I like seeing what people have done in the past especially if its a nice Kodachrome image.
I think the general idea should be 'don't spam the thread with dozens of images at once', old or new. Curate!

CA is my main issue honestly, and yeah I expected it to get worse with the 2X. I'm spoiled by my Limiteds and DA* lenses I think! I've only used it a few times so far
Looking at your shots Luftfluss I think I may just need to get better at correcting CA in LR. More sunny days would help too.
Are there eyepieces to help with manual focusing? I don't want to necessarily change to a split prism screen, but a brighter viewfinder or magnification would certainly help I think. Not a fan of using live-view, I like using the OVF.
