I'd always heard that if you put your photo in more than 5-10 groups, you wouldn't get selected for Explore. It could be that it was invited into a lot of groups after it was posted, since it's so awesome and everything. :)

I'm not a huge 500px fan. I have almost quit it several times. Maybe it's too big for me - maybe my photos just aren't good enough. But I find it lacking in terms of any real feedback. I know Flickr is all about reciprocation, but to me 500px seems worse. Because the ONLY way I can get a comment is if I comment on someone else's work. And then it's usually a short "lovely shot" type of thing. I actually find I get better feedback from some folks on Flickr.
It's great as a portfolio to show off your best work because the site is well laid out and looks very nice. However, if you really want exposure or if you are like me and you want some real feedback, you have to be one of those top 5% type photogs. But that's just my experience there. I'm sure other people feel differently.
