Love the second shot of the Fritillary. Not seen any here since last year but I'll keep looking as I found a beutiful Dark Green Fritillary last year.

The Black Tailed Skimmers (Dragonflies) are emerging now and I managed a couple of shots yesterday, so will go back this morning to the same spot and see if I can get some more for the collection.

Went for a lunchtime walk yesterday, warm and humid, ideal weather for the Butterflies and Dragonflies to start appearing. Lots of Speckled Woods appearing in the woodland around the reservoir and my first Four Spotted Chaser of the year, a first at this location too.
The grasses in the meadow are almost chest height and I must have spent about 20 minutes stalking the Dragonfly through the jungle, never taking my eyes off it as it flitted about so I didn't lose it in the long grass. Really a hayfever sufferers worst nightmare as I was covered in seeds and pollen when I stepped out onto the path again!
All taken with the K5IIs + DA*300mm and 36mm Extension tube, manual focused.

Thanks!
I use the Sigma 105mm Macro. Great lens and been using it for years. A bit heavy perhaps and I have thought about getting the Pentax 100mm WR Macro a few times but still stick with the Sigma.
I might treat myself to the Pentax at some point though. :)

Took a walk out the back of the office after work today - better than 2 hours crawling in the rush hour traffic. I was looking for Dragonflies but none were seen, so decided to get some more shots of the Small and Common Blues as there are a few about.
First 3 shots are of a Common Blue, last one is a Small Blue... very small indeed and only slightly bigger than the end of my thumb.

That was one of the first things I tried, using the DA*300mm + Kenko Pz-AF 1.5x TC. Unfortunately, it's still as bad as the K5 so no improvement at all. I think it's down to using PD-AF as when I switch to Liveview, using CD-AF, it snaps to focus first time. That's why I use the Pentax 1.7x AFA more, not only for the longer reach, but also for easier focusing.

My Bigma works well with the Kenko TC and focuses a lot better than the Pentax SDM lenses, without any hunting. Maybe that's why Pentax hasn't yet released the long awaited 1.4x TC that's been on the roadmap for years, they just can't get it to work properly?

I've been using the K5IIs a lot with the DA*300mm + 1.7xAFA for a handy 510mm handholdable setup. Here are some of the Kingfisher shots from my early morning foray last Saturday.
Loving the setup and looking forward to summer and lots of Dragonfly and Butterfly opportunities. :)

I had a look at a couple of Heron shots from early thursday morning and noticed the same pattern showing on some feather detail. However, I was able to remove it using colour noise removal in Topaz DeNoise, so it may not be Moire related. As the shots I have taken , where this colour cast pettern has shown up, have all been taken very early morning in lower than usual light levels, it may be a related to high ISO / noise? Not too bothered though as it can be easily removed. :)

...and here's the Heron. Bit of a Heron popsicle thing going on there too from the frost all over it.

The only ones I have noticed it on are the Grey Herons on my local patch. I have a couple from yesterday morning still to process so I'll see if it appears on those. Great shot by the way!

Here is one I took a couple of weeks ago. The spot I usually sit in watching the Kingfishers has steep sided banks and trees all round so is well shaded and can be a bit of a pain for lighting. However, the K5IIs + DA*300mm +1.7x AFA handles it well enough at F6.7 and handheld. I did try once with flash but all the bird images had steely grey eyes... not a good look at all.

Strangely, I have only seen any false colour / Moire effect on a few images, all of which were Herons, and even then only when shot at about a 45 degree angle to the side. On no other bird shots, even those with very fine detail, have I seen this so it must be something to do with the feather construction?
