:lol::lol::lol: You saw it!

See in the film days we didn't talk about crop formats. There was 35mm, there was 1/2 frame, and there was ideal format jumbo 35mm :p:p

I will say I find something similar as Steve, there's a different style of seeing with a rangefinder.

After the instant return mirror and TTL metering there really is little stopping the SLR - as a general purpose, all purpose camera. You really can apply it in more situations, and with ease, than you can with other types (well, looks like the EVIL will evolve into an even more versatile platform)...

But here, just off the top of my head, are some rangefinder advantages:

- when using filters viewing is unaffected; ditto for when using slower lenses. Slow aperture blades are no problem. The shutter usually is quieter than on an SLR. With the modern viewfinders, you have good vision as to what is in the frame, and also what is just outside the frame. This in part lets you see differently. With the old time rangefinders, you get to put on cool turrets and play with heavy brass n glass. That by itself is a reason to prefer a rangefinder (though not as the sole camera!! Though, if I had to, I could happily live with my Kiev, and my photography would improve)...

But a good early Pentax gives me the tactile brass / glass / leather thing, and does so much more than a Kiev or a Konica (say) RF.

The X's: Lens custody battle by Nesster, on Flickr

Paleo Pete - you can get plenty of film from B&H, Adorama, Freestyle... and apart from 'real' b&w film which is cheapest developed at home, if you don't have a CVS or Wal Mart handy, Dwayne's mail order developing is inexpensive and excellent.

Really, film is still there and a viable format ;)

+1 on that - I have an all black Pgm Plus, but your panda looks so nice I want one like that too.

The other panda SLR that I really like once I had it is the Minolta XE-5:

The XE-5 however is big and heavy where the Pgm Plus is small and light.

Back from Eric and feeling so super smooth now. A thing of beauty, for sure.

Jeez that's a sweet camera, and makes me miss mine -- it was the lizard skin one, and a prior owner made me an offer I could not refuse to get it back. Yes, the black Spotties inspire such behavior.

Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm f/2.8-4 ver 3 by Nesster, on Flickr

Version 3 of the Vivitar Ser 1 70-210 (Komine), I was hoping it would be a K-A version but it is K... anyway, first I've ever had. I don't like tele zooms and have a couple of others - I probably will end up selling this one to partly finance the whole package :)

Pentax MX SMC-M 50mm f/1.7, Hippie Strap by Nesster, on Flickr

With a nice Hippie Strap, a MZ with a SMC-M 50/1.7
I already cleaned it up a bit, put in new light seals (which seemed to be missing, as I didn't have to clean off much at all), and a roll of Fomapan 400.

It is nice to have a working camera with a mechanical shutter for winter. If daughter likes the looks of this maybe I'll swing a trade with her for her SP1000 - the MX I think is easier to use and at this stage more reliable for her photography class.

Lovely cameras, Steve, there's something about those Russian RF's that's enticing, usually the lines are beautiful and the innards are assembled like tractors ;)

Here's the Fed 3 (note the high tech lever advance) with the panda industar and the Jupiter 12 that will soon be Steve's :)

The P645 is such a dear - here's a series I took yesterday for my user review entry (using the preset Macro-Takumar 50/4)

I finally took a pic of the ZX-L - these kind of cameras just don't float my boat as subjects, they aren't lookers like some vintage gear ;)

Blue, that's an awesome set of Pentaxes you have there. Yes indeed!

Today was a wee miracle: the snake-skin black Spotmatic decided its meter would work, after all. At first there had been no motion, though battery and switch continuity were present.

Anyway, in celebration, a couple of camera glamour pics (taken with the FA 43):

LOL, I was also - so I put in what I thought was a lowball bid. I need a mechanical shutter M42 body for the winter anyhow, as I gave away my good Fuji ST605 to a friend of my daughter's. The replacement $3 ST605n works except it is missing the rewind release button. I tried it without film, and I thought I was able to release the film by pushing in with a screwdriver/pen sort of thing. But when it came to reality: I have an exposed roll sitting on the take up spool :)

I'm psyched - yesterday somehow nobody else bid on a black Spotmatic with snake skin leather. My first black Spottie, and I'm hoping my first fully functional 'real' spottie since my daughter stole the SP1000.
