Applause all around! I'm happy KEH has caught onto the vintage camera ('collectibles') thing for use not just display. And the Franka should be a lot of fun.

I've gone digital and autofocus happy: K-30 (the best APS-C camera to buy today) and D600... plus some AF Nikkors, plus a Tokina 28-70 AF for Pentax... I think even the last35mm film camera I bought was a F100 :o:confused: What has gotten into me!

I can resist a 6x9 folder, but apparently not too often. But this is 5 years worth of them - and I don't think I'll have 24 in another 5 (you can take that two ways ;)) -- at least I'd have to get a bigger surface for them. The last three are the two Kodaks at the left and the Moskva on the right.

It is likely made in West Germany by Bilora, and might be the 1953-54 version with the flash terminal on the side. In '55 the flash terminal is on the top and the name is Flash 120.

Does the film backing indicate a maker? What's it say? Here's a 1958 Sears ad for Panchromatic film

I'm in the middle of a move, but saw just the lens come on, in Connecticut - and made an offer the day before we closed on the new house, paid on the day we closed, figuring it would arrive late this week or next... and there it was yesterday already, the very first thing the US Post Office delivered to our new house. :p  I'd say this was the proper way to inaugurate the new address.

The "red P" or whatever that cyrillic letter is, plus siver KMZ, supposedly the best version of the J-12. I'll see about that :D

Made the same year I was, too :D

I note the rear element has more shrouding than the more common, later J-12, e.g. this LTM version:

I wonder if this difference accounts for some of the performance difference?

I've discovered Minolta as a bottom feeder brand :)

Minolta MD 35-70mm f/3.5, SRT 201 by Nesster, on Flickr

The SRT 201 is a few months old now, it came as a freebie when I bought a vintage folder. Turns out I like it. The lens I bought the week before last, it's a constant aperture f3.5 35-70 Minolta zoom... one that Leica also sold for their SLRs.

Woo Hoo, Excellent! I applaud anyone getting a 120 camera, and a Mamiya C330- Bravo!! Hope you get loads of enjoyment and excellent pics with it.

My haul from today's camera show: a bunch of magazines (I'll post the Pentax ads), a cable release for $1, and a Nikkor Ai 105/2.5, carrying a rep of one of the best 105's ever... I'll use it with the FE I have, but of course had to mount it upside down on my K100D:

I found this lens today:

It is a Sankyo Kohki Komura 135mm f/2.3 preset.

But, I still feel like I made a big mistake: I was also bargaining for a Kodak Retina lens shade, and a real nifty closer up adapter that has the magnifying mask to go in front of the rangefinder part... and got the price down to what I wanted, only then I took home the wrong box! (These were in orignal boxes) Instead I now have 5 Retina Close Up type R lenses. I suppose they would work on a Retina Reflex, which I don't have...

RML - you might be surprised based on this letter from a reader to Pop Photo in December '56:

Pop Photo had started a 35-mm (their preferred spelling) section that fall.

I envy you that Signet, I recently studied them and coveted one.

Re. slide on hoods - RML is right, the era had 'series' filters: you bought an adapter which screwed onto a filter holder, your series filter went in the holder, and you finally screwed on a 'keeper' ring or your light shade. There were dedicated hoods as well though.

I get mine at a camera show locally, if I need one for a new aquisition I just take the camera there, and try on different bits till I find one that fits. 32mm outside diameter may be a fairly common one, if I recall right the Kodak Retina Xenars have that dimension, as well as other medium format Xenars/Xenons in folders.

My favorite camera is a 1937 Bessa 66 with an uncoated Skopar. It has auto stop (no red window peeping) and a very nice lens. The Bessa I is a good camera as well. And I have a prewar Certo Super Sport Dolly with Xenar - the Retina shade fits - and a not quite working range finder.

Baby pics? :)

Not with an Isolette, but I've posted some pics from a Kreckel Bessa I with a Vaskar. The image quality is fine indeed. (I have several folders, a couple of which I consider to be very fine cameras.) I haven't missed a rangefinder, as I've learned to focus fairly well without. The Agfa has a reputation of having the best Tessar clone of them all.

RML - the better folders from the '50s, and some prewar ones as well, are fully competetive with modern image quality. This little Agfa, for example, should in real life use be up to or near those classic Rollei TLRs. A hood is a very good thing to use, but not absolutely necessary.

I had to buy it, as I have a roll of 127 film, and the Starflex I intended it for decided to break shutter. Yes, I plan to use it soon.

A Baby Rollei - WOW, that should be spectacular.

You can get 127 b&w from B&H and a few other places, and frugal photographer has some color stock as well.

Steve, I'm glad you have one, these are such beautiful machines... with a 5 cm lens I think you may be looking at 127 film, unless it's a 35mm camera - which would be awesome! (I recently bought a roll of 127 film - it's still available - for use with a Kodak Starflex. I want to be able to say I've used every camera I have in its intended way ;))
