One possible alternative to either Nikon eyecup is the 35mm Pentax eyecup. This cup is not round like the Nikons but is more like the shape of the eyeball i.e. it is more oval-shaped but with a straight cut on one side which goes towards the bridge of your nose and the oval shape goes to the outside of your eyeball. It can be turned in either direction for the left or right eye to shield the eye from light. If you buy one it will probably have the frame which fits over view finder and the retaining ring which screws into frame thus holding the rubber cup. Simply unscrew the retaining ring which frees the cup and then stretch it over the P645 view finder having first unscrewed the large cup. There is no retaining ring so it relies on being a tight fit but it is tight. I know because I tried it last night

The advantage over the Nikon round cup is that it does not interfere with attachment or detachment of the film insert.

I think the point the OP was making is that the large Pentax eyecup does not prevent stray light getting in compared to the Nikon eyecup which is cup shaped In my opinion the word eyecup is a misnomer in the Pentax case as it is flat and not a cup, hence the problem of stray light. I have exactly the same issue with the Pentax large eyecup as the OP

lightproof, you may want to look at my earlier thread on this. It is called P645N Large Eyecup Problem. In that GR Hazelton found a solution with a DK-2 which is for Nikon F3 and others Nikons. The DK-2 may be identical to the DK-19 but it is a tight fit and if there had been a problem attaching the insert with it as you had then I would have thought that GR Hazelton would have mentioned it and he didn't. I haven't tried the DK-2 solution yet I have been lucky enough not to find myself in the same light direction problem since the day that prompted my thread.

Best of luck
