Funny you should mention that - I honestly haven't seen any other lens nail the red as this one does, and that day I shot plenty of different red leaves and all were exactly as seen by the eye...

Here are a couple of pictures I took a while ago to show lens performance of the SMC Pentax 35~105 3.5, really nice lens, one of the better MF zooms available!
Stopped down to f/7.1 (shot on the long end)
Wide open at f/3.5 (shot on the long end)

Well, the general consensus is that the more aperture blades in the lens gets it from the hex to the smooth perfectly round circles, the more blades also means a more precise and a more expensive piece. I for one don't believe in the notion of the "more expensive glass has to mean a better piece" philosophy...

People insist that the "hexagonal bokeh" is a by product of cheaper lesser quality lenses - I too don't mind the hexagonal bokeh...
