I have had mine for 6 months now and so far no complaints whatsoever. The only thing I notice as far as feel versus the BG2 I had is that the metal tabs on the battery pull out seems a little thinner than that on the K-7, but if that is my only complaint, it was well worth the $150+ I saved by buying the Pentax branded model.

Just got mine this week. Comparing to the BG-2 I was using with my old K10D, it looks and feels of similar, if not exacting quality as the Pentax branded grip. I spent less than $60, delivered to my doorstep in Athens. Compared to the actual OEM grip (BG-4) which costs over 200 euros, I figure this the bargain of the year. It checks out perfectly, seated properly, looks great, functions as it should.

Interesting, you are the only one I have read saying that this is a piece of junk....I wonder if anyone else with this 3rd party grip feels the same after having owned it for a month or more? As for 3rd party lenses...which are you referring to exactly? Blanket statements about all non-Pentax lenses being junk would a big fat "wrong" in my opinion.

What is being overlooked perhaps is that the "market" has choices. If you want to spend top dollar on an OEM grip which works fine, that is your choice. If you want to spend $57 on an aftermarket grip which works fine, then that is your choice too. Why the need to get ugly about things?

I know this, but I still feel the grip is highly over priced for a plastic shell, covered in tolex and has a bout 50 cents worth of electronic switches inside...regardless of what Canon and Nikon sell theirs for, if they came down to $75, they sell as many as they could make and put the other guys who are selling damn good knock offs for $57 out of business. If it's the weather sealing that adds $125 to the value of the grip, you would be amazed at what 2 cents worth of silicon beading and a careful hand can do.

I wonder if...
If Pentax dropped their price down to $75 for the grip...I bet you EVERY K-7 owner would buy one. Instead of the 1 in 50 who spend $200 +/- on one now. I know R&D costs money, but at the end of the day, it's just a grip, not rocket science and exotic materials...and if everybody bought one at $75 each instead of very few at $200 each...simple math gets them a much higher return. Pentax needs to lay the crack pipe down and start offering the grip at a real world price for what it actually is.

That is pretty much exactly what I meant.

Yeah, besides the weather-sealing, it appears to be pretty much the same thing. I wrote a posting in here a few months ago about why I think battery grips are the most over-valued accessory in the Pentax catalog, price-wise. I love uasing a grip and find it to be necessity at times....but paying $200 for something as simple as what it is...ridiculous in my opinion. These should be no more than $100 from Pentax. If someone out there is making one and selling them, for $90, more power to them.
