Repair 35mm SLR or start with MF (645/6x7)?

It's impossible to go wrong with any MF camera, they have their own positives and negatives. I would say for me 3 backs is optimal and gives me the flexibility I need. Most of the time 2 is enough as well.

I still have P67, Rolleiflex 2.8 and Norita 66 on my to buy list, although a lot further in the future.

I have ME Super and MX. I also used to own LX, but I sold it. I don't need no mirror lockup on 35mm camera.
I like the feel and viewfinders of ME Super and MX best as well. I broke the winding mechanism on ME Super by winding too hard. There are instructions for self fix, but I have failed so far at my attempts... since I can't find the right tab I need to bend into it's proper place... Favorite Classics > Pentax ME Super Ramblings > Three Common Failure Problems

I wish the instructions were easier to follow...

ME Super's are not worth fixing, they are worth about $35... you could get 3 of them :)
Or get MX. My fav pentax film SLR.

The cost of development varies from lab to lab. My pro lab charges AU$1.10 more to develop 35mm film. Unfortunately 220 is a dying format.

I don't usually pixel peep, I'm more after better photos, light, composition etc. Pixel are a bonus :)
Put it this way, any iso100 film can outresolve V700, so I'm not worried about it. If I ever sell large print and I need something bigger, I know I can get a better scan. But as of right now, I don't see that happening any time soon.

Still I love nice and grainy film too. Like I said, I'm not worried about the pixel peeping, just improving my photos.

Just math based on 2400dpi and the resolution I get. Vertical x horizontal.

I find the v700 and 35mm adequate for my use. It's enough for a4 print or internet. The hardest part was getting the height of the holder right for best resolution. In my case it's the heights position. Also keeping the film flat.

Can they come close to V700 and 67 film? That's 30MP equivalent files right there. Also the V700 will look better with this files than even more expensive 35mm scanners like coolscans etc. you are hitting the limit of what 35mm film can do.

I get 26MP equivalent files from my hassleblad and I'm very happy with them. I didn't need larger files yet, but if I do, I can get drumscans.

V700 is cheap and I can't think of single decent 35mm scanner which isn't double or triple the price.

I will also add, the pentax 67 lenses are cheap as dirt compared to lenses for my hasselblad. 50mm lens for Hassy costs around $800-1000. 55mm for Pentax 67 costs around $200-300. It's cheaper than any other MF system with decent lenses.

It all depends how you shoot. With my hasselblad, every shot is very deliberate and I have lots of keepers. I don't shoot randomly with it.
The huge viewfinders on MF cameras help with composing photos and getting everything right the first time. I never had a need for 2nd or 3rd photo. Unless it's people and I need to make sure they didn't blink etc...

With my 35mm gear, I tend to take lots of useless shots, just to get to the end of the roll. Very often so I can put in another film, with different ISO or Colour/BW etc...

It all depends how you shoot. But I have few suggestions. For the $100 it would take to fix your K1000, you can get MX.

Otherwise if you tend to fire away, and not think too much about composition etc, MF might not be the right choice for you.
For me I like that I can take 12 photos on my 6x6 camera (16 photos for 645 and 10 for 67) and get to see them faster. With my MX I have to take 36 photos and that can take long time.

I think if you save up $500 you should be able to get a decent pentax 67 with 105mm f2.4 lens. For $400 you might have to look around.
I would only get 645 if weight is an issue. For me I wouldn't go smaller than 6x6 when going MF.
