I'm happy to announce two new additions to my Takumar family! :)
I'd like to welcome the Super Takumar 24mm f/3.5 and the Super Takumar 35mm f/3.5 both of whom arrived happy and healthy to their new home.
On a more serious note, does anyone have any experience with M42 Takumar zoom lenses? Are there any worth taking a look at? Any that I'd be advised to stay away from?

The SMC 135mm f/2 is my new favorite Takumar. It's challenging nailing focus hand-held and finding the right composition (shooting on a crop sensor Canon 60D makes this a 216mm) but there's something about this lens that just really does it for me.

I finally got to snap some pictures with the SMC Takumar 135mm f/2.5 that I was asking questions about a few pages back.
What a difference between this lens and my old Super Tak 135mm f/3.5 This lens seriously impressed me. These were all taken handheld so focusing was a bit of a challenge (I was on the edge of minimum focus for the last one). Looking forward to taking a few more with this lens.

Thanks for the great advice on the 135mm f/2.5 SMC.
I picked up the lens this morning and it's a lovely specimen. Original caps, perfect condition and based on the 43812 number on the Auto/Manual switch I guess I am now the proud owner of a version 2 :)
Hopefully I can get out and snap some samples in the next few days.

I have a question that I can't seem to find an answer to...
I've been offered an SMC Takumar 135mm f/2.5 to buy and I'm aware that there are 2 SMC versions, the 2nd being the better of the two. My question is how can I tell the difference between a version 1 and and version 2? What identifying marks are there that will confirm which version I am looking at?
Thanks in advance!

I finally had a day off and the rain, snow and wind finally broke allowing me to take a walk with my new SMC Takumar 105mm f/2.8. My verdict? It's a wonderful lens! I was extremely lucky to find an amazing copy from a retired photographer who bought it new back in the day and only used it a couple of times. He also sold me an SMC 200mm f/4 which he said he'd never used - both lenses are in immaculate condition.
These are the 105mm on a Canon 60D with M42 adaptor.

Great pictures folks.
I'm happy to announce that as of today there are some new additions to my Takumar family... :)
Thanks to the generosity of a retired photographer who replied to my wanted as on Craigslist I am now the proud owner of a pristine condition SMC Takumar 105mm f/2.8 and an SMC 200mm f/4 - I can't wait to try them out!
Last month I tracked down a Super Takumar 28mm f/3.5 and put it through it's paces shooting an impromptu short film (along with my Super Takumar 50mm f/1.4). Feel free to check it out here: Neil Every: Mulieris Futura
It was shot on the Canon 60D

I've had the Super Tak 300mm f/4 for awhile now but just haven't really had a chance to try it out.
It's a tricky "little" thing! Focusing was a challenge. Every shot required some pp to boost contrast and bring out the colours a little more and on most of the shots I needed to correct CA. It was a grey and cloudy day unfortunately so the lighting was very inspiring.
Here are two samples. Any tips on shooting with this lens?

I was kind of hoping all the economic uncertainty in the world would perhaps cause people to be more frugal and that prices would come down... So not happening.
I was watching a nice SMC Tak 105mm f/2.8 in very good to excellent condition on eBay. It came with original caps and leather case. 3 days ago it was at a very appealing $32 plus shipping. The auction will be done in less than an hour and I am so not even going to bother with bidding because as I write this its at $189!
Now I love me my Taks but this is ridiculous. And sad. My SMC 50mm, 135mm and 300mm f/4 are getting lonely. They need more friends. :(
On a serious note, do you folks think that its perhaps because of the economy etc. people are snagging these lenses because they can no longer afford their modern day, AF/IS/OS/HSM/USM/blah-blah-blah tricked out equivalents?

That's quite the diet you're on there theunartist!
Apologies to the group for my pics posting twice - not sure what happened there?
Today I was watching a Takumar 20mm f/4.5 up for sale on ebay from a seller in the U.K. Yesterday it was sitting at just over $100 so I was still in the hunt. The auction ended this morning and it went for $450! Now, granted it was a very nice looking copy but still, that is WAY over market value isn't it?
My new Tak addiction is going to be put on hold if that's the $ value the market is headed in these days. In the meantime I'll just have to wait for my 300mm f/4 to arrive in the mail. I can't wait to take it out for a spin!

I've come to PentaxForums many, many times and have found the insight here extremely useful during the course of my first 3 months of DSLR shooting. Since I'm here so often I figured I may as well join the party officially!
I must confess, I shoot with a Canon 60D but I LOVE my Pentax Taks! I do have an old Pentax P30n SLR, so hopefully that's enough to not be scorned around these parts. :)
I have the SMC 50mm f/1.4, Super 135mm f/3.5 and just this week snagged an almost mint Super 300mm f/4. I'd love to pick up some more Tak glass, what would you folks recommend out of these: 85mm 1.8/1.9, 105mm 2.8, 100mm f4 Macro, 35mm (f2 or 3.5?), 28mm f3.5, 24mm f4.5, 20mm f/4.5
I'd like to have a nice range but funds are limited so I'm probably going to have a wait awhile for a decent 85mm. In the wide end which should I prioritize? So many choices! (of course eventually I want them ALL!).
Here are a few shots taken with the 50mm in the last 2 months: |
