I got told I could not use one of those words on another thread here because our American friends think bad things when they see that word.

Most of us need to acquire a tool that is the ‘best average’ for the range of things we normally do, and when we do an outlier activity we need to adapt and make do.

My first camera was a Ricoh XR500. Then I got an MX. Really pleased me and did not go to any other brand.

And notably no German brand camera such as Zeiss, either.

Can you imagine a David Attenborough show on the state of Pentaxicus Userus. I hope he would talk normally instead of in that weird vocalised whispering.

Today I was out running and saw a man with a recently acquired Spotmatic. Talked to him for a while. Suggested that if he wants other lenses buy the Takumar series and if he wants a digital buy Pentax because it was designed to use the Takumars.

Ricoh do a lot of imaging work, professional specialist stuff like medical and office equipment. Significant money in that. Retail cameras and top end models are a relatively small sideline which probably help them keep the engineers busy , usefully using capacity and skills and other resources but not the main line of business.

I got MX in 1981 after a Ricoh XR500 because it fit my budget and had good reputation. I liked that it could take pictures without batteries. Improved reliability.

Now a brick is not the right cheap weight but the nefarious could find something that would make a sealed box feel right to the average person.

The first camera I bought about 1980 the shop had a display version. I decided to buy. They got a new box and opened it in front of me to verify that there was a real camera in the box. Even in Australia, it seems, there had been cases of bricks in new boxes.

The ONLY reason I can think of to justify a particular brand be used by a photographer is if the work flow involves the employer taking possession of the RAW files and processing them themselves.

I saw a man with a Pentax near the Oxford train station this afternoon. Compatibility with legacy kit was one of his motivating factors.

The main use I put my phone to is on data services. Internet access for general web browsing, podcasts, and WhatsApp voice calls which sure beat phone calls to people you have connections with, when you have an unlimited data deal.
Looking for the day when there will be a WhatsApp directory for businesses and government offices so you can call them with phone calls too.
Then you would be almost certain that if someone called your phone number they were a scammer, with the rare exception of along lost friend.

I think it is more that they are worried about high quality images being produced by people other than the photographers who are there under media deals. To keep the value of the media packages.
If safety was the concern it would be easy to ban any object bigger or heavier than some defined amount.

If removing other brands would be vandalism, adding Pentax must be graffiti.

I moved here 4 years ago, but after so long there with little rain, it was hard to grow a garden, I like rain.
The people from here think hot and sun is GOOD.
I have no idea what got in their heads.

I remember seeing a few others play. Dean Jones 212 at Adelaide, v WI. And the same day Tim May 24, a PB, and Merv Hughes 89, really something to be there in person. Before Adelaide Oval was turned into a cookie cutter stadium.

In the UK there is usually mizzle. Very rarely is there even what in Australia is called heavy rain, let alone the tropic storms in Singapore or even more extremely further away from the equator, like in Taiwan.
The English invented cricket, a game which can only be played in dry weather. This seemed like such a paradox to Australians. I finally worked out why they invented cricket. Cricket is a socially acceptable excuse for sitting in the pavilion drinking pints.

My impression is that the Singapore market fills up with the established brands: Canon, Nikon, (Pentax), and Apple.
