I like that lens too. 20/4.5. I bought mine on an eBay auction on my last night in Hoboken before flying out in the morning. I was the only bidder and got it for a good price. It was in good condition and included the hood and pouches for each of the lens and hood.

I like the mild barrel distortion.

Clearly the seller named the lens for the size of filter it uses, kind of like a plumber naming pipe fittings.

What were the light conditions that enabled you to see this.

It is auto typo.

They insert typos, even when you type it right first try.

Thanks. I would expect much more obvious projection modifications on FF but your second picture shows quite well the projection distortion on the smaller sensor.

Which camera body were you using? I have been curious to see what that lens does both FF and APSC.

I have not experienced it but have seen others refer to oil on the blades as a cause of this.

I also have a 200/3.5 preset that is very hard to move on the first time on a day but after that moves easily. Seems like a mechanical tightness.

I have done better other days. Sometimes I just have difficulty with any lens.

I took my 200 3.5 to Port Meadow yesterday to take pictures of the ice and birds. I really struggled to get focus with K3 and ambient temperature of -1C.
Just as well I also took my 35 2 and 50!4 macro which did much better.

I have one of those and find it hard to use. I much prefer the 300/4.

I find focus is a challenge, much more with the DSLR than the old film job. The screen is not really intended for MF.

200 and 300 are likely to add movement softness effects as well. They need fast shutter speeds.

Manual is great for developing thoughtful and learning work which helps to advance.

Enjoy what you have and there will be images that really please you.

I have the 200/4 and simply have not used it enough to have an opinion. My use was back before I changed jobs.My eyesight improved after that making focusing easier which makes any lens seem better.

I also have the 300/4 which I have liked quite a bit. Plenty sharp enough. I could read the title on the spine of a book being read by a lady in a park in Singapore, from the other side of the park. The 300 has a large filter diameter and a slide forward hood, which I like. The 200 has 58mm and a screw in hood of the typical Takumar style. A much lighter lens. I also have the 200/3.5 preset. That is a hefty lens. I like the results it gives.

300/4, a nice lens. Quite large and chunky but gets the pictures.

Never mind that, a visit to the dentist is probably more dangerous.

Nice lens, although I have not properly got to know mine yet.

I always use them in M, with aperture priority for exposure. I may focus wide open and then stop down or just at the aperture I will expose at. Actually does not make much difference to my in focus rate.

What frustrates me is the focus screen that is not really designed for focusing. Focusing was never as hard on the MX.

Having tried an 85/1.9 and 50/1.4 and 55/2 as well as the 55/1.8 my preference is for the 55/1.8. But I must set out to work to know the 50 and 85.

That is what I was thinking with my question.

I have 85/1.9 STak and know of other STak and SMCTak 85/1.9 and 1.8 versions.

I simply did not recall if there was also an 83/1.9 in any of the Tak series.

I think I need to just the helicoid in mine because it seems not capable of focusing beyond about 25-30 m.

The 135 and 55 you have are good choices. I regard the old glass as much better than just reasonable.

Paul, thanks. I previously used the hexagon and found it seemed to come on over a wide range of focus swing but the red rectangle was much narrower in when it came on.
I will try the hexagon method again to see what happens.

I have a nice collection of Taks. Some of them I am finding extremely difficult to focus with my K3, while others focus reasonably easily.

I have been using the K3 and usually focusing until the red rectangle appears in the viewfinder, and the focusing screen appears focused.

However, some of them, particularly the 50/1.4 do not get focus when that indicator comes on. It seems as though something slightly closer to the camera than the point I thought I focused on is what is actually in focus.

Is this the phenomenon people refer to as front/back focus?

Any pointers for where I would get instructions for how to fix the problem? Of course the camera cannot recognise lenses through the mount so it would need to work on the focal length input done at switch on.
