Detroit has several single golden arch McDonalds. One is at the Maccas near the intersection Van Dyke and Tank. Is that a symptom of the weak state of the Detroit economy - they only afford one arch?

Well, it is a matter of value to you of the whole of what is offered. Hope you find the right one for a reasonable price.

As a buyer you could write conditions in your offer that the vendor clears up rubbish items you do not want. It is probably there because the vendor has been lazy for years. The condition clause would probably result in a domestic, so the vendor will wish he had got rid of it earlier.

I do not have the lens but your 1 and 4 pictures make it look like the 'not snappy' starburst is actually more than one from light points located within the starburst region of the other.

I read your comment about wind making it impossible to focus. Immediately thought, why?

I guess this is that the subject was moving so much that the AF did not have anything stable to work on. MF would have work, surely? The distance of the subject was far enough that the movement would not have made an appreciable difference in focus. I know in macro I have the problem with focusing in the wind, but that is a differnet matter.

Buying separate tickets only makes sense in the situation you describe. Last year I went online for a particular journey, buying from the airline, and for one trip they wanted AUD6400. When I bought two tickets (each two sectors but with 2 weeks between the trips) it cost me about AUD2300, to sit in the same class of seat with the same entitlements in the same plane! Another choice actually cost MORE to buy part of the journey (one sector) than the whole journey (two sectors). There is no normal logic to airline pricing.

My earlier point was that the travel agent process for buying gets the same ticket conditions for the entire journey, for example international trip with a few domestic sectors added in. Buying separately will get all kinds of different baggage allowances etc. AND if something goes wrong the supplier takes a 'no responsibility' attitude, whereas in the whole package purchase, it is their problem to find alternatives if their service fails to supply the parts so they link together.

SFO would be one of the places where there are a lot of 747s and 380s because of the cross pacific routes, and their capacity results in less planes flying. The 777 was the first two engine plane to have engine life long enough to be rated for commercial use across the Pacific, where there is potential to need to fly one engine down for 7 hours, depending where the failure happens. SFO is the nicest US entry point I have found, and influenced my choice of entry point several times. I think the fundamental issue is that it is one of the few US airports which separates international and domestic travel. In contrast LAX seems to be a collection of airline airports rather than an airport to which the airlines fly.

I arrived at SFO one time and the immigration computer failed, so they just let the arrival hall fill up with about 10 loads of people. Everyone just had to stand around for a couple of hours till it got going again. Other than that, no problems with that place. That day the airline representative spent about 30-40 minutes with me (one passenger) trying to find rebookings to my destination, and then overnight accommodation (I had arrived on a morning flight) and still arrived in Ottawa after midnight the next night. I had a generous connection but the wait was that long. That is an advantage of the old style booking of a whole journey in comparison with the sector by sector booking on the internet, because then the airline is not responsible for problems that arise.

The main types of 4 engine jets now are 747 (getting phased out) and the 380 and most of the rest are 2 engine, 737, 757, 767, 777, 787, 320, 330, and the smaller ones are around in very big numbers. Therefore surprising to see two 4 engine in the same bit of sky, with no others.

I think it is 747 on the left and 380 on the right.

That is at the other corner of Blagnac, near the 380 initial assembly factory. They are then shifted from a bay there, where the main pieces are assembled and wheels attached to another nearby she'd where all the detail fittings are done.

So there are at least 2 AF ones there and a BA one in the graveyard at the other end, just near the fence.

Where is that? Does not look like the Air France Concorde at the gate to the Airbus factory at Blagnac, Toulouse.

You make me miss the sites of home. First images I saw over the past couple of months since I left that did that. Now on the other side of the world.
