are you absolutely sure it has to be? if so then maybe the button on your camera is faulty. take off the winder and press the button (not while film is loaded :p) make sure the camera is cocked. it should lock in the up position. fire the shutter and cock it again, the button should pop back up. im only basing this on my use of the winder MX and testing the film unlock button on my ME-F.

I believe you guys are reading this wrong. it states that the film rewind lever on the camera locks, not the winder. all it is saying is that by pressing that button up (which just pushes a pin up to push in the rewind unlock button on the bottom of the camera) locks this button in position ) the same way it will lock if you press it with your finger) to allow film rewind. it mentions nothing about anything on the winder itself locking.
