The free lens in Kalimar is claimed for by Nino who lives close to my home and the free lens will go to Nino. Sincere apology to a VF-19 in Canada as the shipment cost isn't worth the money for the lens. I will be closing this thread when Vivitar 70-210 f/4.5 is shipped with a tracking number later this morning.

All items are sold, except the FREE Kalimar 80-200 f/3.9 in M42 mount with a Tiffen 55mm Haze filter. If anyone interested, I just need the shipping fee which is about $8.95 + $0.65 for $9.60 for the free lens with a filter. The lens is not great in long end, but further tests shows that the lens is reasonable between 80 to 150, probably okay till 170mm. At long end at 200mm, the lens is the softest that I have seen. And the lens does require a M42 adapter to mount. Looks brand new lens which looks alright from 80-170mm. Last call in this thread

It is good weather today and hence some test pictures for the Vivitar Series 1 in this selling lot

Summary of impressions:
  • Contrasty & Sharp

  • Great color

  • macro is 1:2.2 is quite pleasant

  • reasonably sharp at wide open at f/3.5

  • focusing & zoom ring are smooth

  • very clean lens

  • bokeh is reasonbly pleasant to me

  • - quite heavy & challenging to use

  • - I use MF for most shots in the series, AF switch for trap focus will be harder in a heavy lens

#1 at 210mm

#2 probably at 70mm

#4 focus on needle on roof top
I should have tried f/3.5 on this, I think I use f/8.0 or f/11.0

#5 in either f/3.5 or f/4.0, I don't remember

#6 in either f/3.5 or f/4.0, I don't remember

#7 in either f/3.5 or f/4.0, I don't remember

#8 with f/3.5 wide open for testing bokeh

#9 with f/11

#10 mistaken shot at f/3.5 in Av mode

#11 testing bokeh at either f/5.6 or f/4.0

#12 at 70mm

complete photoset:
vivitar_70_210_s1_test - a photoset on Flickr

slideshow in bigger size:
hin_man's slideshow on Flickr

I don't have wonderful site to take test shots and I am sure the lens is fine as is and it will produce pictures that rival lens on the expensive side. Please PM me for questions and I am begging someone to take this lens from my lot.

Thanks,
Hin

Kalimar 80-200 f/3.9 in M42 mount + Tiffen 55mm filter are FREE to whoever asks for it but you pay for shipping. The lens is extremely soft from 180mm to 200mm and I tested the lens the 2nd time, it seems reasonable from 80mm to 170mm. Please PM me if you want it for free, you NEED to paypal me for the shipping, which is around $8.95 for flat box shipment to US states. I can only throw in the Tiffen UV 55 mm haze filter. The M42 adapter and lens case are NOT included

And someone please consider the Vivitar "Series 1" which I fall short in time to test. I will close out this thread by Wednesday.

Last call, lens without lens case is priced at $63, and add $12.0 to add the original lens case. Pick and choose or best offer before I close out this thread. It is really tough to sell inexpensive items in marketplace. It is a tough lesson learned and hopefully remembered with my LBA

I see no interest in the compact and cute Vivitar 70-210 Macro focusing zoom f/4.5 and I have withdraw and sell it to myself for the same price with no discount :D . Please PM me if you want the lens, price negotiable.

I have only the Vivitar "Series 1" Macro Focusing Zoom f/3.5 left and available for sale. Lens does come with a matching lens case. The lens is beautiful but I fall short in time in testing it. I will post pictures when I manage to find shooting moment. It is raining all week on and off in California. Someone please help me take it home. And please buy with confidence, I rate my self the 2nd if not the best in packaging. And I treat all my customers with respect and care.

There will be a gap of time before I roll out my next sale thread of better quality items mentioned in previous thread. I am still doubtful whether I should part with my beloved kit's lens. You can see the images in my 'thoughts about DA 18-55' blog post in

I have withdrawn the Kalimar. I am very disappointed with the lens and I don't want any of you to get the lens. Though I have to say $22.00 is a fair price for a good lens case and a Bower M42->K adapter mounted on the lens and a Tiffen 55mm haze filter, you can still PM me and you want the package without the lens, the lens case is quite good and I think it will fit a big tele like like a 70-300.

And I have lowered the prices on the two Vivitar, please take them home. I am yet to test the Vivitar Series 1 later on and post pictures. I really like the other small and compact Vivitar 70-210 Macro f/4.5 and further test show that it is likely a 1:3 macro but I can't confirm it as I can't see any marking and I just rough guess the size in comparing with a 1:2 ratio lens that I have.

[Update:] My K10 was ordered yesterday and I have more stuff to sell to cover the cost.

After the modification done last night to convert Kalimar 80-200 f/3.9 from a M42 mount to a simulated K mount with a 3rd party Bower adapter + a receiving hole, I am very excited today to find a moment to shoot some testing shots

Modification details in lens thread: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/19602-dremel-t...ification.html

Lens + 55mm Tiffen haze filter, lens case not included ($0 + shipping)

I am somewhat disappointed with the test pictures at the tele end and I have lowered the price accordingly. For shipping only, please don't expect a crown jewel. Compared to shots that I make with the Vivitar 70-210 f/4.5, the long end of the Kalimar is quite soft. I don't have a problem with the color, contrast and metering. The lens at long end at 200mm have quite soft pictures. I did the test around a different time close to sunset time and the flowers are all under a building shadow and in many of the shots, I have SR turned off and I did not know about it. Most test shots are done in f/5.6 and f/8.0 with some in f/3.9 for testing bokeh but now I forget which one is which.

#1 SR is mistakenly turned off

#2 SR is mistakenly turned off
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g192/hinioman/4sale_kalimar_80_200/IMGP7367.jpg

#3 wider end at 80mm is quite alright
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g192/hinioman/4sale_kalimar_80_200/IMGP7379.jpg

#4 SR is off, I think I use f/3.9 on this one
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g192/hinioman/4sale_kalimar_80_200/IMGP7371.jpg

#5 SR is ON, it is either me or the lens is quite soft at long end, maybe both
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g192/hinioman/4sale_kalimar_80_200/IMGP7385.jpg

#6 SR is ON, very soft again, wind is blowing on small flowers at the time

#7 wider end in 80mm is okay
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g192/hinioman/4sale_kalimar_80_200/IMGP7376.jpg

#8 SR is off in this one, hard to find flowers in winter time

The test pictures spoiled all the enthusiasm that I have on the converted K mount. I should have tested the lens in 100mm, 150mm and 180mm, and I will do so in next test, hope it is the lighting and windy environment today. For shipping only, you can't go wrong .

[Caveat:] The converted K mount lens is not as smooth in mounting as a real K mount lens. You need a M42 adapter for the lens. The converted K mount will never be as smooth as a real K mount lens and it is harder to mount and dismount but I have tried it over 10 times since yesterday and I don't see a problem. The only risk that I see is someone drop the lens while dismounting the lens.

The Albinar 28mm f/2.8 is shipped this morning around 9:20am. And I added a new 52mm lens hood to the package as a thank you gift to buyer. The lens hood is not of the best quality and once mounted, I don't think I manage to use the lens cap and the lens hood together, but this free lens hood should serve buyer alright in protecting the Albinar 28mm lens and it helps reduce flare.

Tracking # in PM to buyer, I will add tracking # to paypal detail if I manage to find the way to do it.

And I managed to perform my 1st M42 to K mount conversion on Kalimar 80-200 f/3.9, details in https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/19602-dremel-t...ification.html

and the added drilled hole on the lens base will serve to work with locking pin for securing lens in place.

Thanks,
Hin

I have documented how I did the alternation to make the lens fitting into the current K mount, likely a KAF2 mount unlike the original K mount as in k1000 body.

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/19602-dremel-t...ification.html

And today it is very cloudy today but I manage to take few test shots on the altered Vivitar 70-210 f/4.5 that works great on my K100D body. It has a marking for Macro that turns to about 2 to 3 feet closest shooting distance at 210mm focal length. There is a weird marking of M:R and 1.1 and I bought the lens thinking it has a macro ration of 1:1.1 but I think that is not it, it is more likely 1.1 meters. I can't tell as I am not a Macro guy. Most test pictures are in f/8, f/11 and f/5.6 but I don't remember which is which. All are done in stop-down metering in M mode with adjustment for longer shutter for some as it is very cloudy and dark today.

Summary of impressions on the lens:
+ small & compact, reasonable lightweight
+ very well built and looks like brand new
+ glass clean with no scratches, fungus and haze, blades like new
+ tested by Hin with test pleasant photos
+ quite reasonable in sharpness and color in both short and long end
+ macro (or close up) is quite good on this lens, macro ratio is unknown, I am only guessing it to be 1:3 or 1:4
+ closest distance is about 3 feet, good for flowers & bugs close up
+ K mount instead of M42 mount

- macro (close up) only works in the long end at 210mm
- manual focus
- manual metering needed due to absence of A setting for auto aperture

marking of M.R along with 1.1
The shinny edge has been blackened.

I will make the final modification to smooth off the edge as well as darken the shinny edge by some means. Please take this before I change my mind on pricing or keeping it to my unused gear list.

[Update:] I love this lens after using it on my K100D. It is lightweight, small & compact, and sharp in both wider and longer ends. The macros shot on this tele-zoom is very satisfactory for me. And the short end at 70mm is just as nice. The focusing ring and blades are silky and snappy. The ring path is a bit short but very reasonable for fast focusing and zooming. Zoom ring is great as in a mint lens. I mostly test the lens at f/5.6 and f/8.0 and I have not pushed it to wide open. But in all test shots that I make, the lens has good color, sharpness and a lot of details for its fair price. I have upped the pricing to original pricing that I paid with shipping so that I can have it longer. If you like it, steal it from me before I changed my mind.

Thanks,
Hin

I am very happy for you, you have beautiful photographs. No need for refund as I rather you be happy with the purchase, the Helios 44 58mm f/2.0 lens does have a stiffer focusing ring that I was not paying attention to.

I did buy a Tamron 70-300 Di from another user and I am about to order my K10D subject to my chat with my sweetie and my torn conscience in buying too many. I did buy way too many gear to enjoy photography and the needed upgrade. I get sidetracked in spending a lot of time in selling gear that I bought too quickly after coffee. :D

Like new, very small & compact 70-210

And I have used the dremel tool to perform the alternation needed to fit any Pentax digital mount with the flange grind to fit. Workmanship is guaranteed as I removed the base plate to do the needed grinding.

I will smooth off the scratch marks. The shinny edge has been darkened.

I have not used this lens yet but I like its small size and weight. It is like NEW and it goes wonderfully with a manual body such as Pentax P5 and Pentax Super Program film bodies. It is the smallest 70-210 that I possess. I got it for about $47.00 after shipping. And the original lens won't work in K100D/k10D digital bodies with KAF2 mount, but it only works in K1000 and my p5 and super program bodies. It is darn cute manual lens to be used in manual bodies. And I have grind off the flange to work with all K bodies with a dremel tool -- I am proud!!!! The Macro is not known on barrel but it has some weird marking of M:R followed by 1.1 in the lens barrel as shown in pictures above. It can't be the macro ratio of 1:1.1, it is more likely 1.1 feet as the closest focal distance.

Lens does look brand new to me

Bower M42 adapter mounted (not for free)

Bower M42 adapter mounted (not for free)

Case not for free

The lens is in M42 mount. Since the lens base is quite big, I find this a prime candidate in a converted K lens with a M42 adapter. The lens and barrel is in pristine condition as the previous owner kept it nicely in an Kalimar original case. Lens comes with front and rear caps. A Tiffen 55mm haze filter is provided with this lens.

Please take me home

Previous owner kept it in pristine condition

This lens is a Vivitar series 1 lens and the only reason that I sell it is due to its heavy weight; otherwise, this is the best 70-210 that I have in my possession. It does NOT have 'A' setting and I count this as a cons in my possession but the price is very reasonable for one to appreciate good old lens that is masculine and I am very sure that you won't be disappointed if you enjoy old lens. Lens cap + a beautiful lens case. This is the version 1 of Vivitar Series 1 lens as mentioned in Vivitar 70-210 Series 1 Macro Zooms - Mark Roberts Photography

Three lens are sale pending to three different individuals. Thank you guys. And I have updated the list to reflect current state.

An article that I wrote about the Albina, I love the wider angle in the lens which takes great macro:

Albinar 28mm f/2.8 manual lens in K mount
Albinar 28mm f/2.8 Macro Test Shots - Hin's Tech Corner

hand-held with single hand,
I shoot my own hand and hence the blur

The best lens in the batch that I will miss is the Albinar which I really find a good lens with 28mm wide angle and a fast speed at f/2.8. I especially like the lens for its handy close up work with roughly half a foot close up and I do most of my product shot of previous sold items with this lens. The lens is in pristine condition and I have replaced the canon lens cap that I got on the lens with a compatible lens cap. The only cons on the lens is that it does not have a 'A' on aperture ring, one has to do stop down metering on M mode. Similar recent item in ebay got bid up to $61 Albinar ADG 28mm 1:2.8 Macro lens for Pentax K1000 SLR - eBay (item 160201681844 end time Jan-27-08 17:42:37 PST)

My Picasa tutorial just get noted in NYtimes and I get many visitors to my blog that I have not updated frequently. I buy too much gear and I have less time with learning and sharing my learning with others. I should have spent my time more focused on learning instead of gear hunting

My article in link titled with techtheman blog page

My Picasa demo page noted in NYTimes:

And with the K20D/K200D, I want my K10D bad as I am more than ready to jump but my funds is lacking.

I committed the every buyers' newbie mistakes with LBA in loading up too much inexpensive gear too fast and I have a hard time to enjoy photography, let alone any desire for better gear and upgrade. I need fund for my K10D upgrade from K100D plus lens consolidation under way.

Please buy with confidence and check my feedbacks. I sell only good gear and I take pride in having good feedbacks and make friends on the net with others. The friendship and common bonds in passion is next best thing to photography.
