Which one of these two will you keep? The Contax 137 MA or the black Spotomatic. I have way too many precious but unused film gear DSC07914

I posted before on my red camera with Contax 137MA. Lens mounted is a Super-Tak 50mm f/1.4 with 8-element. Apology if you get bored with repeated posts but I am a sicko with gear porn. I scratched it up pretty bad with a poor quality M42 to C/Y adapter and not remembering to push the release mount in dis-mounting leaves a scar for my memory. 3rd picture under the letter X is the scratch mark.
I don't hear much about this camera before owning it. Its viewfinder is bright and clear and the bottom houses 4 AA battery and it self-rewinds on film advance. The metering is claimed to be superb by the previous owner. Kudo to the previous owner who goes the extra efforts on the red leatherette upgrade.
Cheers,
Hin

I have not shot it unfortunately. The film body is a beauty but I do not know if the shutter timing is accurate. It has a leaf shutter on the back and it is fun to watch the blades in action. The body is close to mint in condition but I have my doubts if metering/shutter is accurate on this film body and hence I priced it mostly for the lens and the DKL adapter.

You are way luck with the D, I have the same clumsy feeling on the 124G. I am right handed and focusing on the left hand is a bit awkward but I won't complain as I thought all Yashica has the focusing knob on the left before I learn about the different Yashica D from you. The D does not come as often as 124G on ebay the last when I look. My previous link from frugalphotographer prefers just the regular YashicaMat over the 124G.
Big thanks for pointer,
Hin

Steve, I am so sick that I buy cameras just for the look and gear porn pictures. Look at what I have done to the film gift from you -- the Agfa Rollei Retro. DSC08271
I took these product shots earlier contemplating which roll to go first. All of my roll films expired except the Rollei Retro that Steve gave me as a gift. DSC08279
And I found my vintage camera strap working well with my Yashica. DSC07910 DSC08301
I will hopefully find time to use my 120 films. Film alert I go about online recently shopping for some color 135 films and I find fewer places with good discount and I wonder if the Agfa Vista Plus 400 is worth trying as it cost cheaper to test my unused camera with Contax 137MA -- my red camera. AgfaPhoto Vista Plus 400 135-36 Film 1175259
Anyone using this film?
Thanks,
Hin

I had let go my excellent+ copy of Pentax 645N and today, I am taking consolation with my Yashica 124mat G. I took some gear porn on the Yashica Mat 124G when I first got it in 2010. It is a beauty. _IGP8815 _IGP8827 _IGP8818
I had it today with me and contemplating which roll of expired film to use among Ektar, Portra, Acros, Tri-X and Agfa Rollei. I got the roll of Agfa Rollei Retra 80X from Steve and that is the only roll that has not expired. All of my other roll films expired in the range between 2011 and 2013.
I used to have Rolleiflex Automat and when I researched today, I find this Yashica versus Rollei twin-lens reflex cameras from Frugal Photographer

DSC06945
Schneider Xenar 45mm f/2.8 is a pancake that can be converted to M42 and stays as pancake in terms of size.
Among the three Schneider Xena 45mm f/2.8, Xenon 50mm f/1.9 and the Tele-Xena 135mm f/4.0 that I have tried, the best image quality comes from the Schneider Xenon 50mm f/1.9. The performance on the 135mm f/4.0 is excellent but the long minimal focusing distance at 14 feet make it harder to use unless your subject focus is far. The 45mm f/2.8 is the cutest one as an alternative pancake with reasonable performance.
A word of caution on the DKL mount, many of the DKL to M42 or DKL to K mount adapters are priced in the $35 to $50 range many of them are poorly made with all sorts of failing issues after few usage. I ran through three DKL to M42 adapters to get one good one out of three. They all work initially and after a few mount, they lose the tight mounting or fail to lock the DKL lens into place. DSC07163 DSC07162
Xenar pancake on top, M42 to DKL adapter, M42 to Konicar AR, Konicar AR to Sony E, Sony A7 on bottom A pancake with three adapters .... Oh my but still quite small DSC02602

IMGP8426
Schneider Xenon 50mm f/1.9 and Kodak Retina IV IMGP8431
Kodak Retina IV, the film rewind is at the bottom. And the shutter release is not on the top plate but on the body and I find it easy to hit the shutter IMGP8432
Schneider Xena 45mm f/2.8 pancake was gone
The Schneider Xenon 50mm f/1.9 is very good when I tried it on Sony digital bodies. IMGP8433
I originally get the lens aperture stuck on the Xenon and I managed to get it loosen up and now I have a unused body. Tempting to let go as I have too much gear, is Kodak Retina IV a worthy body to keep?. It looks very well built. The body has a leaf shutter and it is amazing to watch the leaf shutter in working with the shutter release.

DSC07951 DSC07914 DSC07927 -- S-M-C Takumar 28mm f/3.5 DSC07958
I went too far in dressing up my takumar lenses on a red body. The M42 to C/Y adapter is now stuck on my Contax body, sometime it loosen up and sometime it get stuck. The M42 adapter to C/Y has similar problem, probably worse, than the M42 to K adapter.
Now my Contax body is turned into a m42 body with a deep scratch from my attempt to remove the stuck adapter. The Takumar in the picture is the Super-Takumar 50mm f/1.4 with 8-element.

@unixrevolution, congratulation on your toy.
I shot this years ago with a K100D while visiting the gallery of Rodney Lough Jr.
in San Francisco Fisherman Wharf area. My blog post in Ultimate Film Camera showed my enthusiasm on those boxy and big camera.

You have got to ask around for the Fuji members. That Zhongyi Lens Turbo adapter is about the size of Konica AR adapter which is smaller than the M42/K to NEX/Fuji adapters. It makes a lot of difference when adapting to Fuji/Nex as the M42 adapter or K adapter for my NEX are big and bulky making the combo less appealing in field use for me. The Lens Turbo does have the negatives in corner sharpness, blue central spot when shooting into strong light source. But for $142 of my copy of LT, I have no complaints as it allow me to use my M42 and K lenses in a smaller form factor which is important to me in using my NEX.

Love your shot. I should have favored it earlier on Flickr. The Super-Tak 35mm f/3.5 gets me totally hooked on the Takumar. I was naive all along with M42 lenses until I own a good copy of the Super-Takumar. I am fortunate to have a good copy of the 28mm and 35mm with the original lens hood.
I am yet to shoot the Super-Tak on Lens Turbo with close to original 35mm FOV and a gain of 1 stop.

Hin

@Tuco, I have been playing with Lens Turbo focal reducer that does the offset of the 1.5 crop fact on APS-C sensor. LT have adapters for NEX and Fuji. Here is how it looks on the NEX with Super-Tak 35mm f/3.5 (a lovely lens). The beauty in the LT or the better (more expensive) one in Speedbooster lies in the gain of 1 stop of light and 0.72*1.5 final crop factor on the APS-C, essentially get you close to the FF FOV.
Not a great picture to show, I have your SuperTak 28mm f.3.5, the best part with the LT is gaining back the 28mm * 1.5 * 0.72 ~ 30.24mm FOV in FF and gain of one stop DSC05289 by hin_man, on Flickr
shot wide open with NEX 5N in f/3.5 with Lens Turbo
@Nester, thank you for your kind words.
@Jean, we share similar traits with LBA non-stop on Super/SMC Takumar and Tamron adaptall-2.

And the mix of Pentax Auto 110 on a digital
Pentax Auto 110 24mm f/2.8, NEX 5N, a 25 mm to 37 mm step-up ring
smallest lens in my gear set with 25.5mm filter ring
aperture blade project that never get successful and finished in NEX, the idea will work greatly on M43 with a smaller sensor big enough for the image circle on Auto 110 to fill.

I always love Nester's posting. Pentax Panda it is. I love my white K-x until it got broken, repaired and later parted it with sadness. Great use of the white lens.
