Both of the big pro labs in my town charge around $10 a roll these days for develop only. It sucks. The prices have been steadily climbing. Are there reliable mail order places I can trust with my negatives that will save me money?

Some recent shots from a trip around the states. I am not totally content with the scanning/editing on these yet, but still felt like sharing something.

Hasselblad 500 CM/Zeiss Planar 80mm T* w/ Fuji Astia 100:

North Carolina-

(I think I need to try to redo the adjustments on this one)

Also in NC, despite the piano being from Chicago, where I also visited-

Chicago in the middle of the night in a windy snowstorm-

And some 35mm, Pentax ME Super, Pentax-M 20mm f/4, with Fuji Provia 400x (pushed to 800):

Still in Chicago, Mucca Pazza at the Double Door on NYE-

(I was highly intoxicated partially due to a spirit popular in the city of Chicago called "Malort" for these photos)

I still have a lot more to edit/scan from NY, NC and Chicago. Back to work... Thanks for looking!

wkraus - I don't use a Coolscan or Vuescan, but I'd still be interested in hearing if others are as well. I always struggle with scanning, it is often the bane of my film photography hobby.

So sorry to offend. I'll take it elsewhere.

Thanks to those of you who were helpful.

edit: Sorry if that seemed disingenuous, I didn't intend it to be. I am making a thread for my question. Thanks again to aurele and wkraus.

Hey folks, looking for an opinion. Sorry if this is the wrong place, but this is the only thread I'm familiar with. I've been shooting with my ME Super for a couple of years now, and on a recent trip around the country, it started to freeze up on me, meaning I would fire the shutter and it would stay open for minutes until finally randomly freeing up. It only happened once or twice initially, but by the end of the trip, it was doing it consistently and I had to stop shooting with that camera. I'm not even sure a CLA would fix this issue, and I'm not even sure it's worth the ~$100 to get a CLA on a ME Super. So, my question is this: If I were to buy a new camera, what would you all recommend? What is one of the best quality Pentax film cameras of this type (manual/auto, aperture priority, etc.) that's going to last? I know of the LX, but I'm not looking to spend $500 on a manual focus film camera. What are some other options? Thanks for any suggestions. I should have some shots to post soon, lots of scanning ahead...

Thanks Phil! this is not the first time I've heard this recommendation, so I think I will do my best to make it happen. It sounds awesome. I assume it's easy enough to use a tripod on the boat. Do they stop and let you off at certain points to take more time with certain buildings or areas, or is it all on the boat?

Any folks from Chicago in here? I'm heading there this weekend for the first time, wondering if there are any "off the beaten path" areas I should check out for photos. I'll have a 20mm, 55mm, and a 70-210mm zoom for my ME Super, as well as my Hasselblad 500 C/M w/ 80mm Planar.

I'm aware of the popular places like the "bean" at Millenium park, the Sears Tower, skyline views from the planetarium, Hancock building view, etc. Probably going to try to visit the Polish neighborhood and whatever else my hosts take me to see. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated,.

Thanks all. Here's a couple more. I recently acquired a Pentax-M 20/4, and wow, what a fun lens! Fireworks from 7/4 (Ektar 100):

And here's a rather long exposure (somewhere around an hour to ninety minutes I believe) from my Hasselblad, on Velvia 25:

Hello All,

A few shots from recent trips to the mountains here in Colorado.

Flowers may bore people, but I never get tired of them, personally. Especially not wildflowers. Some wildflowers near Guanella Pass:

Ektar100, K55 1.8

I find myself often having to take loads of purple/magenta out of slightly underexposed areas of my Ektar shots. Here's what it looked liek before:

More wildflowers from Guanella Pass:

Ektar 100, Vivitar 100mm Macro Lens

Ektar 100, K55 1.8

I believe I shot the above at maybe f4, here's what it looks like stopped down a little more:

A still-frozen Emerald Lake:

Ektar 100, Sigma Super-Wide 24mm 2.8

A closer shot of the driftwood log, converted to black and white (there was no color in the frame) and increased contrast:

Ektar 100 (converted to BW), K55 1.8

A winged friend at Emerald Lake:

Ektar 100, Vivitar Series 1 (Kiron) 70-210 3.5

An aggressive scavenger at Emerald Lake:

A view down stream:

My apologies for the volume of pictures in my post. Thanks for looking and any comments/feedback/suggestions/tips always welcomed!

Hey all, haven't posted in a while. There are so many inspiring photos here, it's hard to list off who/what is great. Here are a couple shots from a few months back. I have some more film that needs to be processed form some recent trips to the mountains, so hopefully I'll have a few more to post soon.

Long exposure at night on Kodak Pro Image 100 with a Minolta XD11 and Sigma 24mm f/2.8 lens:

Kodak Pro Image 100 thruogh a Vivitar Series 1 (Kiron) 70-210mm zoom:

I haven't had much success with this film. I had never heard of it and got a box for $2 a roll.

I shot some Velvia 50 and some Ektar 100 in the mountains, two of my favorite films. Can't wait to get those back!

Those Kodachrome shots are beautiful! I am also too young in photography to have been able to shoot the stuff. :(

I don't have much experience shooting with a wide-angle lens, but I've had this Sigma 24mm with a Minolta mount for a while. I had it on an X570, but the camera broke. I recently got an XD11 and I ran a test roll of old Kodak Gold 400 of unknown origin (several years expired). I like the camera so far, and I think I can get some good results with this lens using some better film. Here's what I got from a walk around downtown.

And as always, great photos everyone. It's always an inspiration and a pleasure to browse this thread.

A few new shots from the ME Super on Fuji Pro 160S, all shot with K 55/1.8 except the train yard shot, which was a Vivitar 75-205mm zoom:

I love this film! I'm sad it's discontinued, I need to stock up myself before it starts getting scarce. Did you find a good deal on it?

Here's some 400H I shot recently with my ME Super at box speed. I had to adjust some after the scanning to try to match reality. Mostly just levels and a little selective color. I think I just suck at scanning. :(

Vivitar 100mm:

He must have meant during printmaking/scanning then I guess. I didn't get much clarification at the time. Sorry, I don't have any experience processing film so I'm not sure what can and cannot be done.

As I understand it, Ektar has to be properly exposed or the colors go a little haywire. Heavy blue/magenta cast is from incorrect exposure, so I hear, but I also have had lab guys tell me they have to "take a lot of magenta out" of Ektar when it is processed. And then yeah, scanning is a whole other monster. I think Ektar can go wrong at any of those points, but when you get it right, it's a nice film. It's also the cheapest pro level color negative film in my area, and by a few bucks a roll.
