Best wide angle lens for K-1?

Perhaps. What we are looking for:
A ultra wide angle-non fish eye lens
That is a fast lens
That can handle filters

Going by what other companies are offering in rectalinier ultra wide angle lenses, and seeing how they all have the bulbuous front element, putting filters on the front wont work as easily.

As such, they NEED to put a rear gel filter.

Im hoping the irix lens wont be as infamous for decentered lenses as the rokinon

As much as i am loving the k1, i gotta be honest here. The only thing that makes me debate switching back to crop sensor is the lack of an ultra wide angle lens that can use a filter.

The sigma 10-20 f/3.5 was an awesome lens and worked super well for me. One of the reasons i switched over was to take advantage of the extra realestate on my lenses. Though i see the difference on a 50mm, that difference is not evident on the wider side.

Living in canada, where not too many stores carry rokinon, i cant keep buying, testing, and returning the lens to b&h and pay more in shipping than the lens

The 15-30, though a usefull range, is rather useless to me without filter capability at a compact level.

For landscape during day time, i really dont see any advantage of owning a pentax full frame over a crop camera. At night, absoluetly, a HUGE difference. Day time, not so much

not quiet.

a sigma 10-20mm is a crop sensor lens. on a full frame, you times that by 1.5, so you get 15-30. as such, the 10-20 on full frame is the exact same as a 15-30 on a full frame.or you divide 15 by 1.5 to get 10-20mm.

now, with that being said, i reiterate the same question i had in the past. the lens focal point remains constant. what changes is the field of view/angle. a 50mm on a crop vs 50mm on the ff is same, but the field of view on a crop will be narrower.

as such, a 10mm on a crop is to be able to utilize nearly 100% of the sensor, unless it actually is utilizing the entire sensor. so, does that mean that since 10mm is utilizing the full crop sensor, and that a 15mm (or 14mm which is equal to about 9.5mm on crop) is utilizing the same amount on a full frame, is there really advantage of using a 10mm on crop vs 15mm on ff? they both are covering the exact same field of view horizontally and vertically.,.unless i am mistaken in my logic?

what i'm trying to say is that on the wide end, will there be a noticeable difference in the field of view on a full frame vs a crop sensor. i get that it will make a significant impact on the field of view? will i simply be able to see more of whatever the scenery is on a full frame if the lens is the same?

humm...so on a full frame, the widest one can go without getting a fish eye is 14 or 15 mm. the widest one can go on an apsc is 10mm.
with that said, seeing as how both have the same field of view, i'm assuming that there is no real advantage in terms of what can be captured with a wide angle lens such as a 14/15 mm on full frame vs a 10mm on apsc? they both will capture the same image horizontally and vertically.

am i right in thinking that?

one of the reasons why i'm interested in the k1 is that it will give more realestate in my pictures with certain lenses. i get more room with my 50mm, 85mm, and my 100mm. but what about on the wider end. will i be getting the same room? i dont think so, but i could be wrong in that..

when its released, this maybe a decent contender

in my eyes, this wins over the samyang due to the rear mount gel filter. if its a lens to be used for landscape, its gotta be able to use an ND filter

the samyang 14mm lens is something i'm strongly considering as well. the only thing that i'm a lil hesitant about is: 1) their not consistent copy to copy 2)no ND filters.

however, i came across this lil interesting video on youtube to put a gel on the back of the lens to act as a sort of ND filter. and because its so close, i doubt it would do much to the sharpness. maybe drop it down a notch. add 2 gels of the same color to really limit light in

You Tube

nice, so i'm not the only one stuck in this. the 10-20mm sigma, another reason why i love it so much is due to its fixed f3.5 which helps tremendously in low light situations. guess there is nothing really like that for the full frame that can take filters as well. shooting waterfalls with an ND filter makes a difference between a 'good' shot and 'wow' shot.

i could always get the 14mm rokinon for night photography, and then get the lens you mentioned for waterfalls stuff

okay, question for you folks. i got a sigma 10-20mm f3.5 lens that is designed for aps-c filter cameras. i LOVE this guy for many reasons. one, the ultra wide shots, and two, to be able to use an ND filter on it.

now, what is the equivalent of that lens for the FF cameras? the 14mm rokinon looks delicious, but not being able to use an ND filter or a CP filter is kind of a buzz kill for me. i understand the 15-30mm tamron is the same thing; unable to use any filters on it.

not looking for a fisheye either due to the exaggerated distortion.

and the 10-20mm, would it be considered wide, or ultra wide on a full frame? going by the crop factor, i'm assuming the 10-20mm (crop factor of 1.5) is 15-30...unless i'm doing my math wrong?

but yeah, heres what i'm looking for: something i can use filters on; something i can shoot stars with; something that is wide for a group shot/building/something big

thanks in advance
