Quickly went through my images from 2017 and thought this one deserved a re-processing. Attempted to get a bit more depth in the scene.

Forgot to say - I think this looks like a good topic for a PF article or tutorial. I know Nass wrote an article on "Extreme macro" some years ago, but that was quite different from your technique.

I didn't claim it was an accident ;) It's more like cheating. You know, when shooting wide angle you usually want something prominent in the foreground. When you don't have a foreground you can sort of create one by getting low. That part is quite easy. Now, knowing when it works - or not! - that's the hard part. So... I have an idea, but it doesn't always work.
Good thing "film" is cheap.
And one more reason I really appreciate the pull-out screen on the K-1! The above image was shot "blind" with the K-3 since I didn't feel like lying down in the street :D

I thank you for the kind words, but you make it sound as if I know what I'm doing. Sometimes I have a vague idea of what I want, and once in a while it turns out ok. Most of the time, though, it's just blind luck.

And even though I'm close to the ground, there's no focus stacking involved  Rouen Cathedral by -savoche-, on Flickr

Thank you! The nest was right next to the path when we walked in Andasibe-Mantadia national park, Madagascar. Didn't even see it until our guide pointed it out to us :o

Thanks. Yes, they are hard to get good pictures of. I have seen them several times at night, but then it's usually too dark (well, duh). And if they move about in the day they usually move quickly. We were lucky to spot this one up in the tree.
Crossbreeding between wildcats and domesticated cats is a widespread problem in areas where people (and their cats) live close to the wildcat habitats. The Kgalagadi/Kalahari is very remote and as such pretty much immune to this problem. A lovely park, btw. I hope to be able to go back there, maybe do the long and sandy drive across Central Kalahari to Magkadigkadi and Moremi.

Hah, that would have been a better setup for this picture of the wild cousin of your tomcat. The long end of my 55-300 was a bit short for this African wildcat.

The DFA100 performs brilliantly as a short tele as well as for macro work. Walked by this dugout canoe used for fishing on one of the northern beaches of São Tomé. Dugout canoe by -savoche-, on Flickr
