For a lot of shots, sure, but I would feel very limited. If anything I'd want something longer than 300mm on FF. The shot above was taken at 300mm and cropped some as well. For birds 210mm would definitely be too short on most occasions, but also quite often for larger animals. Driving in national parks is strictly on road, and in most game reserves as well, so quite often you will be at some distance. On a walking safari you can go off road, of course, but then animals are usually more skittish and harder to approach.
At other times 70mm can be too long - animals can get very close, or you might want a wider landscape shot - so having a second camera can be a good idea. I carry a Ricoh GR rather than a second DSLR. I try to avoid switching lenses too much, both because it takes time and distracts from the experience, and there can be quite a lot of dust.
For most people going on a safari will be a once-in-a-lifetime thing. If at all possible I would use that occasion as justification for getting a long enough lens (or rent one if that's an option where you are). An alternative could be to just live with the limited range of the 70-210 and maybe add a small super-zoom compact. Not nearly the same image quality, but getting a shot is better than not getting it.
So why don't I have a DFA 150-450 if I think 300mm is too short? For me it's too heavy and cumbersome, both for the flight (I carry my camera gear as hand luggage) and on safari, especially for walking safaris. Had I been sensible I would swap the K-1 for a K-3iii to save some more weight... So it's all about picking your set of compromises. But I think most safari-goers with any interest in photography would want something longer than 210mm.
And no matter what, remember to put down the camera and just enjoy being where you are.

I now see that I indeed had posted an image of the Mr earlier, although in b&w.

Thanks! I have some more shots but haven't gotten around to putting them up on Flickr yet. Just a year behind... :p

Not a fantastic piece of art, but I must say I'm impressed with the result at ISO 51200. Just a quick noise reduction in Lightroom (30 luminance & 15 colour) and it's already plenty good for my purposes. Pair of porcupines by -savoche-, on Flickr

Yes, but I think that most people stick with the default theme, unfortunately.
Oh, and thank you, sir!

Thanks, yes, composing is tricky with these wide angles. It's all too easy to make a picture of a whole lot of nothing. I think the key for wide shots is to have a foreground. In my first shot above I tried to make use of dramatic lighting, but the lack of a good foreground makes it an "almost" shot. The second one does have a foreground that leads into the image and I think it works much better.

Too long between shots with the K-1, unfortunately, but I hope to get going again when daylight returns (the days are growing longer, but the sun still sets at 4pm here).
I did get a couple of pictures of the ruins of the Church of Margareth on Sunday. It was built around 1250 and started falling into disrepair already during the great plague in the last half of the 14th century. It saw sporadic use after that for another few hundred years, with the last service being held in 1643. Margaretakirken by -savoche-, on Flickr Margaretakirken by -savoche-, on Flickr

Thanks for the kind words. It's only the second time I can remember to have seen this phenomenon. Luckily I was working from home today. My wife called me and asked if I had seen the clouds - which I hadn't, so I picked up the camera and went to the attic window :)

We got a relatively rare formation of polar stratospheric clouds here just after sunset. It occurs when high-altitude clouds of ice particles are lit from below. The formal description seems to be "Lenticular type II polar stratospheric cloud" :D
Pano of four vertical shots with the DFA100. Not looking too good with the white background of PF, though. PSC by -savoche-, on Flickr

Thanks! They were pretty relaxed around people. This is in Mlilwane wildlife sancturay in Swaziland, a beautiful area without dangerous game (apart from crocs and hippos, so don't go swimming) where you're allowed to walk on your own. All the animals there are fairly used to people, and the warthogs more than most. The sanctuary is small, about 4,500 hectares/10,000 acres, and is situated in Ezulwini Valley ("Valley of Heaven").

The days are indeed getting longer, ever so slowly :) Yeah, I'm at about the same latitude as Anchorage, AK. I swear it's getting darker for each passing year :hmm:

The sad part is that the sun still sets before 4 pm. The good part is that the sunsets can be quite nice, like this one from last "night", at a quarter to 4. Burning sky by -savoche-, on Flickr

I think that goes for most of us. With enough active members putting in a little there's plenty to take out for each of us. It's what makes PF tick :)
