This is not a great shot or anything, but I wondered if anyone knows enough about snakes to identify this one. We found it on the coast of South Africa, in the northern part of the iSimangaliso (St. Lucia) wetlands.
It never came properly out of the grass, so I don't know the length of it, the thickness of a pencil (or maybe a bit more).

Not the best set up picture, perhaps, but this guy wasn't too cooperative... Rock monitor lizard with its nicitating membrane closed.
