Very pleasant scene.
Some macros from the garden on my *ist DL and the 100mm 2.8 FA lens. |

I did do that and it helped. Not sure how well I did it though, I just based it off the scene, but it looked much better than AUTO.
Here's another practice from today. Same red/blue channel swap, but this time messed with the hues to give the sky a more natural blue.
Still trying to figure out how to make the white/blue edit look better. The colors keep coming out very unpleasant. More learning :) |

That's incredible...
Okay Sidney Porter, you got me into this. Just received my cheapo 720nm filter tonight and took this test shot on my *ist DL. I tried the channel swap technique in post because that looked fun. Excited to try tomorrow when I have more light. I think my 720nm cheapo filter might be letting even more of the visible spectrum than advertised, but it's fun all the same. Only paid $6. |

What?? Haha, this is incredible! I love how I can float around this forum for years and still learn new things everyday. Now I am reading through loads of articles and forum threads about using unmodified cameras with weaker IR filters for IR photography. Definitely gonna give this a go after some more research. Excited to see what you come up with.

Glad you got it working again!
I wonder if the rechargeable batteries you are using can handle high drain electronics like cameras. I also use eneloops, and used them in my K200d (first DSLR) for years. I would leave them in there for weeks it felt like before they needed a recharge. Now that you have a new camera, it may not matter, but for $10-12 you can grab the Eneloops or a comparable brand and you'd be set.
Grats on the K-70. It's a fantastic camera. I shot one once briefly and was blown away at the quality for the money. You're basically getting the highest quality stuff at a fraction of the cost. Good set of lenses, too. Have fun.

It is a fun thread. It's cool you found it and felt inspired to play around and take some pics. Keep posting!

This thread was the reason I got an *ist DL, and then subsequently got me into trying other older gems - so thank you for that ;)
Tonight at the San Antonio Zoo. Still with my cheapo nifty fifty. All ISO 400 and F2. |

That place looks absolutely magical. Not sure I will ever find my way up in that area, but if I did I'd visit.

I'm doing a fun little self-challenge to shoot with my $20 Pentax *ist DL and my $10 Pentax-M 50mm f2. Doesn't get much cheaper than that for digital SLR photography!
Fall colors in the park this evening:
Kinda messed up focus on this, but still like the composition.

Exactly what I was thinking, count me in, I'll buy one right now
Really nice picture, the contrast of the red shirt, the reflection in the water, the framing of the trees. Awesome.

Long time lurker, first time poster - I finally have some picture to share with this club. You all inspired me with your photography and love of the art. I get too caught up in tech and specs and gear sometimes, so it's really helped me going through here and seeing everyone's work. I was lucky to come upon a cheap lot with a Pentax Ist DL recently and had a blast with it.
I made a video with more of my thoughts. It's mostly silly, but check it out anyway if you want: Youtu.be |
