My daughter and her husband have a Honda Fit The SIL plays hockey at an outdoor rink, and managed to get 7 SEVEN! straw bales inside it. When he has larger stuff to move he invites his FIL (me) to come visit with the pickup truck.

I just received my new shipment of B&L contact lenses. I have had cataracts removed, and so my new in-the-eye lenses have no focusing system, as the old lenses supplied by nature had. That means that I need reading glasses or similar to pull out of my pocket when I want to read a dial on my K-3 or read the fine print on a prescription.

B&L PureVision Multi Focal lenses with ADD HIGH. They are multifocal contacts, (soft of course; I have no need to scratch my corneas). The Rx is 0 correction as the lenses inserted with the cataract surgery take care of distance viewing, but ADD HIGH for closeup work. The max closeup ability is 2.5 diopters. Basically there are overlaid rings of +1.25 and +2.5 diopters and after a short period of adjustment (minutes) the brain seems to use the necessary corrected images and ignores the other two out of focus images.

The advantages are multiple in the Rocky Mountains. They don't fog up when I enter the house in the winter. I don't lose them all over the house like my readers. Unlike varifocal spectacles, I get the close up correction throughout the entire field of vision. Fine print above me is as easy to read as below. I can use normal ski goggles for protection against blowing snow.

They work for me, but might just as well be wrong for you, but I thought I would just tell you my 82 year old's solution to reading glasses.

I first saw an M*300/4 in Jasper at a photo shop. I walked into it and the man saw me carrying my KX and almost grabbed me to show off his new M*300 and the LX it was destined for. I left a trail of drool on the floor on the way out ...

iPhone 13. Replacing a deader than proverbial doornail iPhone SE (1st edition). It. died when I tried to change the battery with one of those "anybody can do it" battery kits. I THOUGHT I had done exactly as the instructions said ... The 13 was supposed to be here on the 2nd, but the post office in the distribution centre had an electrical fire on the Friday before the long weekend .........

We babysat a friends' house while they were away, and ate all the ripe tomatoes from their greenhouse while we did. They surprised us with these as a gift today as a thank you. Quite colourful, they are.

K-3 and DA* 16-50. EXIF in the images.

Reluctantly, but with really no other options for the way I handle my photos, Resubscribed to Lightroom Classic. Cdn$15 a month won't kill me, but nothing else could possibly resurrect all my old photos complete with all the corrections I have made over the many years I have used LR and PS.

They do, however, require one to remove them from the pocket and recharge them frequently. A wristwatch is simple: glance at wrist. (Set it with the phone time to ensure reasonable accuracy). One of my two wristwatches is waterproof and battery operated. I don't like the digital display all that much, but since it's good to some insane depth of water it's a lot more useful camping than the iPhone that I leave in the trailer because it is, relatively speaking, fragile.

I partner my 55-300 with the *16-50. Great light weight kit for just bumming around. In parks the 12-24 replaces the 16-50 for the scenic shots.

I use it with photo software, so it counts (I think ;)). A bluetooth keyboard on Prime Days to replace an old keyboard with failing key switches. Seem to work fine so far, but a bit "CLICKY". One day I'll find one that is silent for an affordable price.

For quite a few years, my kit was M 28/3.5, K 55/1.8 and M 135/3.5. I do not ever being disappointed by the lenses: it was the photographer that screwed up.

I think that sounds like an expensive problem. I got off easy on my last problem that was a surprise, but was still several $$$: the routine 48,000 Km service on my Tundra revealed a pinhole leak in the radiator. I say easy, because I could time the repair, but it isn't cheap to take the whole front end of a Tundra apart to change the rad out. I looked at repair, but 90% of the cost was labour to take the truck apart and put it back together again. 3.5 hours

My Tundra (342,000 Km) has failed to start like that twice. Both problems were found with the nut sitting by the steering wheel who didn't close the driver's side door all the way draining the battery overnight. I bought the Tundra 7 Sep 2003 and have replaced the battery exactly once.

I have given up looking over glasses at the deserving subjects because most of the time they don't even notice. I have found that wearing a B&L multifocal contact lens works just fine, doesn't fog up, doesn't fall on the floor, and never needs cleaning. They don't cost all that much more than the readers from the drugstore with the number I lose, step on, drop overboard ...

To add to Walt's post, I own and operate a 2002 Tundra V8 4x4 SR5 (small back seat). It was purchased at a discount of about $5,000 because although the odometer read 206 km, it was still on the lot with the new vehicles coming in September 2003.

I just gave my Toyota service department a cheque for nearly Cdn $1,500 to replace the radiator which had developed a pin hole leak. The vehicle has just over 340,000 Km on the odometer. My wife and I agree that this is our last vehicle. It has failed to start twice. Both times the problem was the nut behind the wheel who didn't close the door all the way so the battery was flat.

Many people here find it rather odd that I drive such an old vehicle. To replace the vehicle with any brand with the same capabilities, new, would cost C$60,000. I don't find it odd at all. It tows my 5th wheel in camping season without complaint and in other seasons is sure footed in Rocky Mountain driving conditions.

The clue: do your preventive maintenance on schedule and without compliant.

I'm using the FA 100/2.8 macro for my close work these days. With a 24 MP sensor and modern digital development tools, I can get 2x mag with 12 MP out of the FA, without the rigging necessary for reversal.

I was beginning to give you a quick lesson on what happens with a reversed lens, but Walt beat me to it. The magnification using the 28/3.5 reversed is very close to 2.1x (on the film plane!). By printing at 8x10, using the full frame which was basically filled with the image of the damaged ring, the damage was shown at somewhere around 16x life size.

I used an M 28/3.5 reversed to help a friend with a jewelry problem. A "jeweller" had badly scratched her wedding ring and she took him to court with help from an 8x10 inch print. The 28 reversed has a little over 2x on 35 mm film. She showed the print in court and the 'jeweller' caved. Best beer I ever earned.
