I loved my old Nikon F Photomic FTn; I used it all through college.
It was old even then, but you could still get mercury batteries.

When it was stolen I never replaced it, opting instead for the then-new FM2n.
Eventually I sold it along with all my other Nikon gear and started with Pentax.

Much later when I got the Nikon bug again I bought an F2 Photomic (DP-1).
The professional Nikon I had only dreamt of owning was now affordable.
All F2 metered models use 1.5V silver cells. Recently I added an F2SB (DP-3).

The F2 DP-11 and DP-12 finders are more convenient to use with AI Nikkors.
I prefer the older non-AI Photomic finders; they have better readouts.
Indexing lenses takes but a few seconds and becomes second nature.

I skipped the F3. The LCD readout has no scale, like several well-known Pentax models.
Recently I added a Nikon F4, now also affordable, mainly for use with manual focus lenses.

Don't worry folks; I still have far more Pentax gear than any other brand...

I currently own only one AF SLR body. It is a pro model that has stood the test of time.
IMO most of the consumer models from all brands are bound to disappoint or even fail.

My Miranda has the shutter release on top.
Several manufacturers made models with either type.

My Topcon bodies have front release. It's different but I'm not sure it's better (or worse).

Using both types my concern is my finger fumbling in the wrong place just at the critical moment...

I wanted to try a Miranda SLR, but not wanting to add another set of lenses to
my collection, I chose a Miranda TM. It's a Sensomat RE with M42 lens mount.

AFAIK many Mirandas came with Soligor brand lenses.

I like the simplicity of the SP1000. It's the only model Spotmatic series body I kept.

Say what you will about weight or "excess" metal, but my Nikon F endured several
major hard accidental impacts with nary a scratch and with no harm to functionality.

Sorry, your lightweight models made in the 1980's onward would not have survived.

Nikkormat/Nikomat FT2 and FT3 models use modern 1.5V batteries, 44/76/357 types.
The FT2 is non-AI; FT3 is AI. I have owned both.

All models in the series are heavy, durable and very dependable.
It is said they were marketed as backup cameras for professionals
using Nikon F/F2 models and made to similar standards.

FWIW the OM2000 body seems a bit better made than the Vivitar 3800 I gave away.
I have not owned any of the other Cosina SLR clones, e.g. Nikon FM10 etc.

Cosina quality seems to be somewhat variable depending on market segment and price point perhaps.
My entry-level Cosina Voigtlander bodies are solid and well-made; the lenses are exceptional.

I was able to fondle all manual focus OM models when I worked in camera service at Olympus USA
headquarters in Woodbury NY for a year in the mid-80's. It was my first job out of technical school.

FWIW I was a Nikon user at the time (along with one of the other camera repair technicians), and
Olympus quality didn't impress me. OM bodies seem more delicate compared to other brands.

Olympus fans will scoff, but later I bought an OM2000, made by Cosina and sold by Olympus.
It's the only OM model with shutter speed dial where it belongs, i.e. up on the top deck - like a Pentax!
Most important it works fine with all OM mount lenses.

I come here to get away from the film haters.

If I weren't so cool I'd be tempted go over to the digital forums and tell those people they're all nuts and film is so superior... ;)

Been there; done that.
Had a nice one, Eric serviced.
SP-F didn't do it for me.

IMO ES mount was just a stopgap measure.

The SV and H3 have arrived. All else being equal I'm thinking I'll keep the H3 since it may be from 1961.
I like my SP1000 but not the stopped-down metering, so meterless is probably the way to go for screwmount.

Alright, alright. It's time to 'fess up.

Offhand I can count 20+ working 35mm SLRs.
I own more Pentax bodies than any other brand.
The Nikons are running a close second.

I can't recall how many 35mm non-SLR cameras I own
but the total probably far exceeds the SLR count.

Some others have actually counted, and admit to having more than I do.
Now I don't feel so bad! :o
