645z + P67 200mm + extension rings #1 & #3

I had a lot of trouble not clipping the highlights from either the overhead light or the daylight through the window. Eventually I did a long exposure of 6 seconds and shielded the window for about 4 seconds. So full light at only +/-2 seconds.

Japanese cherry blossom in full bloom in our yard. In our area they only bloom for a week between mid April and mid May depending on the weather. This year is early. I took a whole series at different apertures and eventually selected this one at f/6.7 or f/8 (can't remember), even though it is not the sharpest because of the lack of DoF, I think it is the most pleasing one.

Couldn't resist posting these few from the cats....

As a dog guy I am surprised how attached I became to the two cats.

645z + some lenses and Godox V1 (First two pics with HSS @1/1000)

Interestingly, pictures of cats (I suppose any predator animal) you can't use HSS if their eyes are open. The extended time that the flash is lit, is enough time for them to close their eyes, so that by the time the camera shutter is opened you get pictures of closed eyes. So if I need their eyes open I switch back to standard sync speed at 1/125.

These were taken whilst indirect daylight was "shining" in through the windows.

If someone is upset about the brand of camera used and they want to go elsewhere, then wish them well and let them go. Otherwise it will be another something silly soon, like it must be jpg out of camera, or editted with Silkypix, etc.

I don't think this is in need of an official decision. I do find it peculiar that someone makes a demand for a change, otherwise they walk.... If they dont like it here they can walk anyway, silently, without dumping some concocted puritan demand.

Sorry to disagree Ed, but I don't see both sides of this. This thread on the forum is what it is, shaped and created by very talented people. Everybody can appreciate it as it is, or leave. Nobody is forced into anything.

I am very tempted to post a link to one of Queen's signature songs that will resonate with this topic. But since this is a photo and gear forum, its probably best left to other venues

Great lens Richard. It even outperforms the FA* 300mm. When I feel adventurous I take mine out on a monopod with a gimbal.

Moon rising 645z + DFA 25mm

Can see winter is coming. The moon rises above the horizon at the left of the picture then moves in an arc clearing the tree tops. In December the arc is lower not clearing the tree tops.

Memories from December 2016. By that time I thought I was comfortable with the 645z after shooting with it for almost two years. The reality is that I am still learning new things about the camera.

These pictures are from the North of Finland on the border with Norway at about 69 deg north. The cottage is on the banks of the river border with Norway and is frozen during winter time. In Summer the main activity is fishing.

Every night we drove accross the border into Finland looking for locations where the lights will be stunning, and found a lot. The temperature at night was -34 deg C. The 645z was a star, never faltered. When returning to the cabin I would take out the SD cards and battery, close the gear bag and leave the camera (and lenses) in the gear bag in the ante-room, which was the same temp as outside, just shielded from the wind and lockable. So the whole time we were there, the camera was like a block of ice. This protected the camera and the lenses from condensation, which is more harmfull.

Our little group of strangers staying at the cottages shared a VW minibus, which really struggled to warm up, regardless of the front radiator being screened off, the engine was running too cold to have any spare heat to warm up the cabin. Sitting still for an hour in zub-zero temperatures were not too pleasant. There was no way to escape getting cold, even though we had cold rated boots, merino wool clothing and down jackets. Upon returning to the cabin in the eraly morning hours the highlight was lighting the wood stove and thawing in the sauna.

Pic #1: 645z + DFA 55mm - The cottage we stayed in from the outside, small inside because a lot is crammed into the space, small living room with a wood stove (a must have) a small sauna (another must have), basic kitchenette (somewhat necessary) and a hot shower next to the sauna.

Pic #2: 645z + DFA 55mm - The access road to the cottages complex.

Pic #3: 645z + DA 28-45mm - The northern lights taken from the frozen river, looking North.

Since the peak season for lights is 2023-2024 we are planning another trip, but this time to the north western part of Norway and not in the middle of Winter.

Some playing around in the garden. A couple of flowers seem to enjoy the colder weather, although the bugs are eating them like crazy.

645z + P67 200mm f/4 @f/6.7 & ISO 12800

Pic #1 - Some small flowers
Pic #2 - 100% crop of #1

Pic #3 - Some more ravaged flowers
Pic #4 - 100% crop

Pic #5 - Gifts from a huge oak tree. Guess who's going to do some yard clearing this weekend :-)

You seem to have a fantastic collection of Myanmar in the 2000's. Have you considered publishing a book? These are historical time-period pictures.
