Congrats Mark.

About a year ago, I bought a new Apple 13. My previous phone was a Nokia I had for about 14 years....so I called it my Nokia 14.

The difference in advanced technology that enabled my new Apple to do so many things that I could not do before with my old cell phone was astounding....to me.

I used my old phone just for making phone calls and texting .

The Apple 13 has made a significant difference in life....and yes, I'm sure its technology suffers, compared to the latest and greatest.

I don't leave home without it. :D

As far as photography goes...both still and video....it really is a competent little camera...to have as a daily carry. It is no K1, but as a small, easily toted still/video...it is hard to beat.

Happy Birthday....mine is coming up in about a month....I'll be 75. Time flies, eh. :D

I have a book on sort of a similar subject....it is called 'Abandoned Manitoba, From Residential to Bank Vaults to Grain Elevators.' It is the second volume, there are two more.

I live in Manitoba province, one of the three prairie provinces in Western Canada....and I use this book to take day trips exploring/ photographing old buildings, remnants of old buildings, etc.

The guy who wrote this exploration into a part of the provincial history, is a prof at the U. of Manitoba....but a bit surprisingly not a history prof., but a Prof. of Biology. He has done a top notch job...text and photography.

My wife and I usually go on day trips....to these sites...also have come across some interesting places to have lunch...during our explorations.

:D Quite right. I have a K1 with the attached battery grip, always with an extra battery, and a 24-70 F 2.8...and it is one heck of a large and heavy camera. Never thought of it as close in size to a 6X7, but your photo confirms that it is not far off from the size of a 6X7.

I also have a K10D with battery grip.

That 6X7 in your pix reminds me of the 6X7 I rented 40 years ago...also with the rosewood grip. What a lovely camera the 6X7 was/is....and a formidable picture taker.

Back in the '80's I rented a Pentax 6X7, with rosewood handle and 90mm F 2.8 leaf shutter lens at a local camera shop.

The owner of the store, put the 6X7 on the counter, than a Pentax MX next to it, and finally a Pentax 110...all black bodied....and all in one line. He got a kick out of the range of Pentax body sizes...and different film sizes that were available back then.

BTW, I loved using that Pentax 6X7 , wished I could of bought one for my own use. At the time, didn't have the budget.

Thx for the info. I'm thinking of depleting it to somewhere between 10-15 %... not any lower %....then charging the Apple13 . That sounds like your recommendation.

Awhile ago (couple days) I mentioned that I had a new phone, an Apple 13. It has a lithium battery and a question I meant to ask, was d other Apple 12 and beyond owners suggest as the proper way of charging these phones.

My previous phone was a Nokia, that was probably about 14 years or so old. At night I would plug that phone in, and let it remain on charge all night. Never had any issues with the battery in all those years.

I'm gone on the interweb to see what recommendations (including the Apple site) there are for charging an Apple 13...and there seems to be a diversity of opinion.

I don't use the phone as much as probably the majority of Apple 13 owners do, and as a result I find my battery seems to be only down by about 2-3 % to 10 % per day. I haven't been charging it every night as a result. I figured I would run down the battery to about 30-40 % ....which would probably take a number of days, then charge it overnight at this point.

I have concerns about battery memory, etc...

Anyways any suggestions for an Apple neophyte ?

Thx.

I've only had my Apple 13 for a little over a day, but I'm very impressed with the technology and also it seems to be easy to learn...considering I'm not a tech savvy guy.

BTW, when I started using telephones, being someone who was born in the late '40's...we had 'party lines back then. If you wanted to make a telephone call, when you picked up the phone to dial, you never knew if someone else in the neighbourhood was already using the telephone line, which meant you had to hang up, and try again later on.

How things have evolved since then. :D

Finally got myself a new phone. It is an Apple 13. My wife and two kids all have Apple phones. I had a Nokia, which I called a Nokia 14...as that is about how many years I've used it. But it finally died, Think a switch was gone, had trouble turning it on.

So thought time for a new, much more capable phone. Technology has certainly changed a lot in all these years.

So far, as I'm getting to know it, how to use it, I like it, a lot.

Yep, quite right, Do your schedule maintenance. On our vehicle(s), I've always changed oil and filter every 3000 miles. Even now, with our bought new 2020, which the maker, says, to change oil, when the oil change light on the dash comes on, which can be well over 3000 miles.

I change it a lot more often than that. In talking to a GM mechanic and the dealership Service Manager...both quietly confided, they also change their oil and filter at 3000 miles.

Those Ford Modular engines such as your 4.6 liter V8, are very good engines. Good to see you got a Fel Pro gasket set. My favourite gasket company, based on years of using them in repairs.

Have to admit, part of it was the history and the look and the no battery . I have an older Sekonic bought in the 1980's, that uses a battery, which is no longer available. Didn't want to have that issue again.

Nice meter. Couple years back I bought a new Sekonic L398. Classic meter, use with film and digital occasionally.

Still have my old Sekonic meter, that I bought new, in 1968 and it still works. It is batteryless.

You mention the Tamron 28-75mm F 2.8 lens. I thought about this lens for a number of years. Never did get it, but it's zoom range and constant and fast, F stop appealed to me.

I like the 24 wide angle on my 24-70....but I've found the 28-105 Pentax sufficient for most of my wide angle needs. When I compare my 28-105 to my 24-70 there are pros and cons of both lenses. But I must say that the 28-105 Pentax produces excellent images. It doesn't have a fast, constant F stop as does the 24-70...but in image quality, it really punches well above it's class, IMO. Good value for the money.

I have only one Sigma, a 150-500 I bought a number of years ago, as I wanted a longer telephoto, at a reasonable price. I've been quite happy with it's performance , good build quality and the images it produces.

For the longest time, from the early '70's till about 2012, when I bought the Sigma, I had stayed away from buying aftermarket lenses, choosing to purchase only the manufacturer of the camera body's lenses. Reason was, previous experience.

I had bought a couple of unsatisfactory , aftermarket lenses, back in the '70's, whose performance and then purchase I've regretted since then.

Although I had some anxiety about breaking my lens purchasing policy, once I received the Sigma and had used it, I've had absolutely no regrets at all, and would certainly purchase other Sigma products, without any hesitation. I also have my 24-70 F 2.8 Pentax/Tamron lens, which has been very good.

In fact I'm open to considering purchases of other lens makers, such as Sigma and Tamron. However of course, nowadays, most lens makers no longer make new Pentax mount lenses. The used market is an option.

I think you'll enjoy your 50 F 2.8 macro Sigma. Another lens I've thought about over the years is the Sigma 180 Macro. I've seen some pix from fellow members using this lens and have been impressed.

But at this point, I have more than enough Macros, my older 50mm Pentax F 4, a Pentax 50 mm F 2.8 and my 100mm Macro Pentax F 2.8 WR. Great lenses all.
