Well it's been 2014 here for 10 hours and 27 minutes... I spent the night at home watching Cricket on TV and having a few beers. There must've been 100's of people at a party over the road.. never thought of crashing it though.. Happy New Year to all.

It's unfortunate that you cannot see the point I am trying to make. I'll give up at this point.

I have no objection to Ricoh placing their name on the camera I am only questioning the meaning/intention of the way they have done it.

Asahi never made Ricoh cameras as well as Pentax AFAIK.

*Sigh* yourself. You seriously don't "get it" but you think it is me that doesn't. Asahi Pentax were both placed on the pentaprism and you knew it was a Pentax camera made by Asahi Optical Co. Ricoh have placed the two names on the camera separately and, as I already stated, if you didn't actually know that Ricoh owned Pentax you could be forgiven for wondering why there were two separate names on that camera.

By your definition of "brand" if Pepsi owned Coca Cola it'd be fine to put both names on the can.

I don't have my nickers in a knot mate I own two D800E's.

The fact is there are two names on that camera Pentax and Ricoh. I don't care who makes what but I find that branding unconventional and as such it is blurring the ID somewhat. If you didn't know that Ricoh is the manufacturer you would not have a clue if the camera was a Pentax or a Ricoh.

One more thing: How can you have a Ricoh Pentax K-3? It's either a Ricoh K-3 or a Pentax K-3. What exactly determines the word "brand" in this case? Pentax is no longer a Brand per se it's just a line of Ricoh cameras.

Yes yes, I understand all of this but I am still entitled to my opinion.

The K-3 is NOT marketed as a Ricoh Pentax (like Asahi Pentax was) but is marketed as a Ricoh AND a Pentax. That's two different scenarios.

PS: This is the real reason people do not like the RICOH decal on the back. If it said "by RICOH" it might not feel so weird.

PS2: We all know the K-3 is really a Ricoh camera don't we?

People who don't accept the RICOH logo on back of the K-3 may as well not accept the camera per se because it's likely that camera would never have existed if Ricoh hadn't come to the party. I see them looking for brand recognition by doing this and it doesn't "feel" right to me either as it seems to be diluting the Pentax brand they were so interested in acquiring. Taking the traditional path (on the base plate) would have seemed a better choice IMO.

As an extreme case, just imagine every 3rd party parts manufacturer placing a prominent logo on every single component that goes into making everything we use.

At $1299 (what my local price is) there is definitely a large space between this camera and a FF to play with. The D600 costs $2,500 here so the much bandied around $1500 I keep reading here for that camera isn't an issue. There's got to be two FF's coming soon.

FA77 & Sigma 50 2.8 should handle it nicely.

I sold my LX and MX many years ago (I had also owned K2) and my dear old mum gave me here 35 year old Ricoh XR-1 a couple of years ago. I have no problem with the Ricoh brand because they've always made good cameras and were a supporter of the K-mount all those years ago.

I used to be depressed about the fact I owned a D800E. :(
