I crop every picture to whatever seems right--not paying attention to any standard ratio (although in practice I tend to be around the 3:2 to 4:2) , and then cut photo paper to the required size to print it. As I purchase 13"x19" paper, and generally print smaller than about 8"x12", I get several photo's from one larger sheet and there is not much wasted paper.
