OK, so my guess was a little off! :p Lepidopteran wing scales come in such a wide range of sizes.

Impressive. At least 20:1 magnification, I should think.

E. americanum looks much the same as E. umbilicatum. I think your more recent set is Clinton's Lily (Clintonia), which typically bloom later than Erythronium.

Is that Clintonia borealis? I ask because around here the name Trout Lily refers to a different genus (Erythronium).

Congratulations, that's well-deserved recognition for this excellent image. The symmetry of it is really striking, and sets it apart from most such photos.

Skippers. Maybe one of our resident lepidopterists will step in with an ID.

Beautiful color contrast with the Echinacea.
Excellent work on the last couple of pages!

Detail of moth's wing by baro-nite, on Flickr
Drying its wings after a rain, just outside my front door. It moved before I went back to take this shot for ID, but I'm quite sure it's the same specimen: Moth, central NC by baro-nite, on Flickr
I am guessing Ectropis crepuscularia but I am no lepidopterist and that is just a guess based on looking at photos. Range and size match (this one was 40mm across).
Close-up is 68 shots stacked in Zerene Stacker. K28/3.5 reversed on bellows, about 4:1 magnification. ID shot is Sigma 70/2.8 macro.

ramseybuckeye: nice shot of your namesake, the Common Buckeye! Here's another, shot at or about the minimum focusing distance of my DA* 200. Wonder if I should try putting this thing on an extension tube ... |
