I get that they are catering to the less sophisticated among us, but if this were a 17-50 it would probably be fine. But for a lens that goes to 250mm I'm not sure that the in camera IS delivers as well at the longer focal lengths. It's a shame for those of us who can manage a relatively simple operation.

I am expecting to receive a sigma 18-250 tomorrow and decided to email the company and ask them why they don't include in lens OS as they do on their models for nikon and canon. For the longer focal lengths in lens OS is reputed to be more effective and has advantages in providing a more stable image in the viewfinder. I thought that since they already make the other models with it, what's the problem with including it. You can always turn it off if you prefer the in camera IS. Their response was that it is because pentax and sony users requested that it not be included in their models under the assumption it might be made cheaper. However, the service rep also said that between the redesign and alternative parts it actually costs them more to manufacture it this way. Sounds insane. An inferior product that winds up boosting their production costs.
I hope the in camera IS is up to the task of stabilizing the image at the longer focal lengths.
