Your Pet A Day.... (post up!)

Our animal household have changed quite a bit over the last two years. My much beloved Siamese female passed away in Jan last year. The old dog that we looked after also passed away. We had a rambunctious little female Siamese enter our lives and with my wife really wanting dogs, we had first one, then another Alaskan Malamute join the family. So, here's a look at the new family members...

Dulux (Mal) and Mei-lien (Siamese) in the garden - at the time Dulux was about three months old. He was trying to figure his way around these 'tiny dogs' with their sharp claws. Mei-lien (a year old) has no issue being around the puppies - well, when they don't paw at her...

Our two Malamutes - Dulux, six month old boy on the left and Belle, eight month old female on the right. They are awesome dogs, very friendly, outgoing and boisterous. I must remind myself that they are still only puppies even though they are both in the region of thirty kilograms. Dulux will end up in the 55kg area if he is growing up to be like his father. Belle should end up mid to high 30s. Oh, and Dulux is named after a paint brand. I may have made the statement that what we paid for him was enough to repaint our house roof and thus it was linked to Dulux...

Our four year old Siamese and seventeen year old wasn't in the mood for any pictures...

I haven't posted for ages, but still pop in to admire the dogs, cats, rats and other assorted pets (I love this thread). Well, Carus (our not so little boy anymore) had some fun in the back garden exploring in the trees. It was just after a rain storm and I really liked how the colours came out. Of all the photos I took of him climbing in the tree, this one is my hands-down favourite of the handsome youngster (one can tell I am subjective :) ).

And we have an interesting setup in the house - we took in my wife's Dad's doggy - a fourteen year old mix breed. She and the cats do not get along, but she is quite intrigued by them. Carus I think would be willing to make friends, unfortunately the dog's hunting instinct is just too much at the moment. She was watching us later in the front garden. Actually, she was watching Carus, not so much me...

Carus settled down later next to Nuala for a well-deserved nap. Grainy photo, taken when it was getting quite dark.

Luckily for me the worst that I get are muddy paw prints on the seat. They love to sleep on my wife's car (on the engine hood) or on the roof so we've gotten used to seeing pawprints on the bonnet and the windows. :)

benrotem, that is a lovely Siamese (they are so photogenic says the very objective Siamese cat owner :) ). I love the doggy and cat pics, they really are awesome to look at. I was washing my scooter today and the two Siamese came to supervice. Nuala settled for the topbox and Carus fell asleep on the seat. Oh, this was while I was washing the scooter, so there's lots of cat hair left on it...

Love all the pictures - I've been following the thread on and off but not getting to post any of the two Siamese. Well, it is starting to be autumn here but we had a lovely day yesterday. Carus and Nuala was hanging around outside.

Although it quickly degenerated into a wrestle session. I managed to get the following - the very elastic and fast boy. Speed and Youth versus Age and Experience. I love the effect that I managed to get (pure luck).

Autumn is creeping up on us in South Africa. The two Siamese were outside this afternoon enjoying the late afternoon sun. So they got stalked again. Not that it worries them, their attention was focused on the birds at the bottom of the garden - much more interesting than the guy wielding the camera.

Although I did manage to get them both to focus on me at one stage.

Very nice photos here since I last popped in. Early last night I happened to catch Socks sleeping - although he did wake up enough to wonder what I am up to (or more likely when will I stop interrupting him). This was taken quite late in a dark room with only the natural light, the K5 impresses me.

And the two Siamese shared supper (it wasn't this peaceful at first, they both try to push the others' head away).

Lovely shot of a gorgeous kitty - he reminds me of my old guy that passed away last year. I have a soft spot for green-eyed tabbies because of him.

I got home on a very hot afternoon, to be met by three relaxed cats. They were sunning themselves on the garden path, so the camera had to come out.

Carus was totally relaxed...

But Nuala decided to step in (can't have all the attention on Carus after all) and he got all friendly...

The two of them settled down though. And I love Socks just chilling in the background, not fussed by all the action.

Let's try this again - for some reason the images wasn't displaying previously. I've deleted the old message, hopefully this one shows. Return of the Terrible Twins aka our two Siamese. Nuala was having an afternoon nap on the porch in her cat hammock.

Young Carus jumped up on the bench next to her, which woke her up. She joined her younger sibling and a cleaning session started.

They settled down for a short while

However Carus launched a sneak attack (I just love Nuala's expression)

Something a bit different - I only had the iPhone handy. Our cats are more popular than the humans, hence they got a late Christmas present from a friend in the Netherlands. Yes, the cats got a Christmas present...

Admiring their loot, home made catnip mice, card and a small soap (apparently they will let the humans have it...)

The big attraction was the catnip mice though, and Nuala was over the moon...

Ah the advantage of being a pet owner - you can take embarrassing pictures of your pets... :)

Carus wondering whether an intervention is required to get his furrsis off the nip.

Wow, really great shots of pets. I have to agree, the kitty photos of dadipentak is great. The following is (kinda) pet-focus. I am doing a self-portrait project 52 initiative and tonight our youngest, Carus decided to help out...

I was just busy testing and getting things set up and he thought that the remote's aerial was just the greatest thing to play with for a short while. :)

Completely understandable and I don't believe there is anything wrong with remembering our pets. This is why I have tons of cat pictures (although I can't quite match wolfiegirl's output). Our two Siamese had a bit of rough and tumble session tonight. Here Nuala is trying to fend off her not so little brother Carus.

The little boy (actually not so little anymore) playing at being a lookout. He is quite adventurous, was investigating an old bird's nest earlier (unfortunately no good shots of his interest in it).

Love the posts, both the new ones and the, dare I say, 'old timers'. In order to restore balance to the force, I have to put up a cat picture or two though. ;) Socks had to go to the vet for dental work recently. He does not enjoy vet visits in general, so was very glad to be home. I also suspect that he has been looking at Elsie's pictures as I caught him 'playing dead' in the garden...

I can confirm though that he is very much alive, as he did the ninja change position move

A last one where he is awake and planning retribution for us bundling him into a cat carrier (actually, we bought a medium sized dog carrier for him, he is currently sitting on a healthy 6.5 kilos).

Wolfiegirl, congrats on your latest lens. I think I've lost count of your lens collection. :)

Oh, spot on with that comment. :)

And Wolfiegirl, the cats do the same. If you catch them when they're asleep and start stroking them you will get very sleepy meows from them. I think we need more of Tripper, and riff, those shots in the link you provided are amazing, something to strive towards.

Socks doing what only he does best...

I was actually surprised, this was taken with the 70-300mm, I was just playing around with it a bit to see what it will do on the K5. I used it to take pictures of what we call the cats' entertainment area at the bottom of our garden. They love watching it due to...

I know the two birds aren't pets, but since we don't have ducky pictures the cycle must be broken. ;)

I really love Socks and his sleeping habits. He knows how to enjoy his sleeping life - after my stint taking pictures of the birdies, I walk back into the study only to find that he changed position but was still... sleeping.

Thanks wolfiegirl. On the first pic, Nuala is on the left (she is a purebred Seal Point Siamese) and Carus is on the right. He has the black face - actually dark brown. He is a mix (Siamese and Tabby) but the Siamese blood in him really shows up. :) And yes, I love that we have a pair that look alike and hang out together. I have to agree with your comments on the pairs and the same but also quite different.

I'm really enjoying this thread, here's to many more interesting, varied and amusing photos of pets in 2012. I think we're missing duck photos though, I have a feeling the chain has been broken...

And onto my brood, I played around with my Sigma 70-300 lens a couple of days ago. My favourite models were outside on an overcast day, watching me.

I love how they hang out together - my wife and I were very worried that Nuala wouldn't accept the much younger Carus. Not only did she accept him, but the two of them are the proverbial two peas in a pod. Or Yin and Yang. Or how we tend to refer to them 'Trouble' and 'Brewing'...

I love the following two pictures, it really defines the relationship between them.

But there is also time for a friendly rumble...

I really need to brush up (i.e. really learn how to) my photo editing skills. The unfocused weed in the centre of the first three pictures is really a facepalm moment...

Here's a couple of photos with my Sigma 50mm DG Macro lens. I must say, I think I am going to have a lot of fun with the K5. I managed to intrigue Nuala and got the below shot as one of the first with the Sigma, I really like it. Just need to not overexpose the white fur so much. The pictures of Socks and her were taken either during a rainstorm or with overcast weather. His was inside, next to a window, hers was outside on a porch.

Pensive, staring at the raindrops. Mmm, for some reason Picasa shows pinkish borders.

Thanks - yes, that is with the 18-55 WR kit lens and at 3200 ISO, no flash. Surprised me to be honest, it is really a huge step up from the K100. Looking forward to seeing what I can do with it (or at my level of competence it's more what it can help me do ;) ).

Socks very quickly relaxed and went back to sleeping though. Not much that can worry him...

Wolfiegirl, I love the shots of your two, the roadkill impression is absolutely gorgeous! And the previous pet shots, I know I've been quiet over the Holiday period, but they are awesome shots to see the different pets.

After lots of deliberation, I've upgraded my camera. The K100D is now my backup, with a brand-spanking new K5 it's replacement. Lots to learn, just playing around with the kit lens at the moment. Socks is not too impressed with me interrupting his sleep session...
