Very nice! ---------- Post added 03-10-21 at 06:13 AM ----------
That looks like movement blur.
It took me a month or more to get a decent shot out of my 150-450.
If you are getting good results with static shots on a platform of some kind, and not on dynamic shots, it is likely your technique. On the K1 the SR shouldn't get in the way. Technique that works on a 300mm isn't good enough for 450mm.
Practice practice practice. Photoshop has a module that can fix motion blur in an image, and it's analysis will show you how much movement there is. That is where I figured out how much my technique was causing the problem.

I got water drops on an inside element surface from being dunked camera, lens and all in a pond. I should have taken it home and let it dry off, but I used it afterwards and it sucked some moisture inside.
I've had it in very wet weather without incident. There seems to be an air vent somewhere that can introduce water into the lens from the zoom action. I have a lens sock something like the LensCoat that keeps most of the water off the lens and body, enough that I don't worry about it.
I don't know where the vent is, but I could see moisture on the second set of elements that you see from the front, on the camera body side. So it might be around the barrel that extends when zooming. So keeping running water off that area might be a good idea.

You might want to talk to them. Sun Camera couldn't do the service and sent it to Japan.

I agree. I was impressed how well it worked on the K3 for focus. It needs lots of light though for that sensor.

Juvenile Bald Eagle, and Red Shafted Flicker. The second shot is iso 40000. Which I thought would be impossible. I was getting worse than this with my Olympus 410 at 400 iso. |

I use the Feisol CT-3372, with a gimbal. I've been using the Sigma 500 f4.5 for a while, recently purchased this lens for a bit more flexibility.

A question:
I've got one of these lenses coming this week. What length of arca swiss plate to I need to get the lens balanced?

Long lenses are very technique dependent, and even with good technique you get soft and sharp shots from the same shutter press. Is the softness due to sr? Movement of the subject? Air distorting the image over distance? Last winter I was shooting from my warm vehicle with the window open and wondering why I was getting soft shots.
From what I see wide open long is a slight bit softer than the Sigma 500 4.5. Great for a zoom. A friend's Canon 200-400? Is about the same.

Very nice! The osprey shots are lovely, you must have been close. This lens seems to perform very well in skilled hands.

Nice. Looking at the second one the choppy background looks like what I was getting with the 300mm and 1.4tc, and sometimes the 300mm alone. It is partly bokeh characteristics in harsh light, but it seems worse if there is slight movement blur. You had 1/500 shutter speed. Was the SR operating? I haven't seen many shots using this lens with that characteristic.
The first and third have nice buttery bokeh.

I must say that I'm impressed. I have the Sigma 500mm f4.5, which is quite nice. This lens is very tempting for a few reasons; the flexibility of a zoom, closer focus distance, faster focus, focus limiter. The downside is half a stop. Weight is probably similar.
What I notice is the very nice Pentax rendering of colors. The Sigma is no slouch but not as rich. There are very nice sharp shots here.
There is lots of light right now which makes a long lens shine. I'm watching for low light shots. The Bigma is a pretty nice lens for the money, but I can't shoot it past September around here. How about this one? Shooting wide open in low light makes you begrudge the stops you lack.
