I think that Junco is the Oregon subspecies. We get them here, as well as the slate sided ones.

Not these ones, there isn't a creek nearby. I hope to get to the Lardeau River to see the spawn and hopefully bears.
And yes they do stink.

Indeed. These ones stay at altitude and eat vegetation, bugs and grubs, with the odd ground squirrel or available game. They look quite good. There is a very large acreage of clearcut on the mountain with lots of fresh greens.
They are fun to watch. I'm 100+ yards away, they know I'm there. I find them by smell.

The K1 Mark 2 maintains those numbers when the AF button is held down in AFC. I find the K1 MII in crop mode better in practice than the K3 was.

A young grizzly. It looks quite small, wondering if it is a second year bear without a mom. I don't know what the bird is. Also a hoary marmot. |

Nice! The other day one of these sat outside our bedroom window for 15 minutes. What a treat.

I have other shots with the flat tail. The way it is eating is typical of beavers as well; they use their claws to grab sticks and in this case reeds. It was a small one, larger than the muskrats we see around here but small for a beaver.

A trip to Creston BC. Weather was great, but still either snow or floods on the fields. There were very few hawks about, but an enjoyable time nonetheless. |

They are relatively common around here. This location, the very branch is where I saw one two years ago. Cute as a button but fierce hunters. I heard a commotion outside our home once and it was one of these trying to make a meal of a Northern flicker.
