I’ve been pleased with mine. This new version comes with an extending handle and a tripod base - nice!
Mine came in a nice carrying case too.

I’ve been using a Zhiyun Smooth Q with various iPhones over the last five years or so, and it’s been very good. The latest versions retail here in the UK for around GBP150, so probably around 300 NZ dollars. There’s a dedicated app that you can control aspects of the phone with directly from the gimbal, although I don’t use it routinely.
Using it currently with an old iPhone 6 which will record 4K at 30fps, or my current iPhone 11 which records 4K at 60fps, giving latitude in processing. What gives the best effect for me is to preset the exposure before recording rather than let it auto-expose, as that can look a little unnatural.
Hope this helps.

Nice capture, GUB. I couldn’t have got that with my 20-40…

Aside from the optical performance, the 20-40 is just so well-built, and I really like the retro Takumar-style knurled zoom ring. I don’t know much about the philosophy of optimal zoom ranges (maybe GUB or Class A could chip in here) but I read somewhere a while back that the quality-optimal zoom range ratio was 2:1 which is exactly where this little gem falls.

My 20-40 took most of my pictures from our 2018 trip to Aotearoa. I wouldn’t be without it.

Worst thing I had was a Polaroid Swinger back around 1970; monochrome instant pictures that were absolutely bloody awful. The only saving grace was that you could see how awful they were in thirty seconds!

I have an original 40/f2.8, which is a very cute lens. Not a patch on the 20-40 for performance at the 40 end though, although the more modern 40s are possibly better than the original. But it’s soooo small!

Certainly is a beach. Many of the UK’s south coast beaches are mostly shingle rather than sand.

Great pic!
In the UK, Crown land is owned by the current monarch on behalf of the monarchy establishment, with access in the main managed by local organisations such as the National Trust. In Commonwealth countries such as NZ, I think that Crown land is regarded as public land, not affiliated with royal estate.

@Transit - I’ve used four DSTE batteries (via A**zon Pr*me here in the UK) in rotation with the OEM battery that came with my K-3II for the past few years. Indeed, they came with me to NZ when we visited back in 2018, so I’ve had them a while. They are labelled as 2800mAh as opposed to the OEM one which is 1850mAh, so take that with a decent helping of salt, but they last pretty well in camera.

It was a very nice day when we did it in Feb 2018, the day before Cyclone Gita was due to hit. We were staying in a bach that was close to the exit point from the crossing at Lake Rotoaira. I kept expecting to see armies of orcs marching towards us! We thought about taking the side-track up Ngauruhoe but naaaa…

Aaagh! And we walked right past Ngauruhoe on the Tongariro crossing! Thanks for clarifying, Gub.
