No worries, I have (digital) Canon, Nikon, Fuji, and many others in film.

Just shot the local Relay For Life (cancer.ca) and there were :
1 Pentax - Me. (well 2, so I don't have to change lenses so often)
1 Sony - Local paper
1 Canon
1 Fuji (point and shoot)
And cell phones galore.

No lens hood. Was an L-Series lens however.

It seems to be that way. So...
In Bon Echo Provincial Park, we went out on a boat tour, and the person in from of me was shooting using a Canon 5Dmkiii. With flash, in day light, on the water, taking pics of the cliff face, in the sun. Seemed odd.
I worked with several people that have pentax and still shoot it as well. And my family will only use pentax, as I have a K-r, K-5 and K-3ii now.

Was looking at why others do it: Quote: Covering brand-name and markings on your gear: - to prevent other photographers gear-checking on you
- to let people think your /enter less popular brand-name here/ is a Nikon (if they don't recognise it by its design)
- to avoid annoying questions about your gear, even if it raises other questions about why the tape coverings
- not to let brand names show as reflections in close-up photography of reflective objects
- not to let your camera brand show in other photographers' photos
- not to appear as a walking advertisement board (incl. two previous list items)
- to possibly prevent impulse-driven thievery
- to possibly prevent robbery of known and wanted brand in places where networked criminals show up after being informed by the little ones about your gear.
- not to scare wild-life with the shining white logos on black surface
- in situations when you are already marketing or otherwise tied to another brand (toothpaste or car-maker etc.) which happens not to be the brand of your camera.
I agree with most of these, but some....

I shoot what I want. I tend to use my Pentax. I don't want to advertise to the "potential" thief that I have a Canon, Nikon, Pentax, etc, that they were looking for so..... No name, no advertising.
I also don't like to have someone say, oh, a Pentax, psshhh. I like that the came up and talked to me about shooting, not what tool I'm shooting with.

Went to Toronto Zoo today. Saw canikons everywhere with the hoods reversed, but I did see one Sony, one Olympus and two Pentax aside from mine.
I was shooting both my Pentax and Canon but unless you know exactly what they look like you can't tell. I have the names covered.

So we're rare yes, but I do hate when we are all "exclusive like".
I was just banned from a flickr group because I use (and have used) non Pentax cameras. (I also don't keep all exif data because I do edit my photos) I will keep with Pentax always, but I also just got a Canon t3i for free, sort of, and will use it for time lapses.
I would like to just say Go Pentax! But boo exclusivity.

When I was in Alert a few (10) years ago my photo tech photographer friend and I went out for a walk at 2 in the morning. It was a nice and balmy -35/-40. After a few hours of walking around we came back in due to her cameras no longer working.
I have to brag a little about the performance of my lowly Pentax k110d when I kept taking shots and documented her frozen Nikon ?D3?s |
