I also notice lots of olympus cameras about. In fact the photography course I took that was full of canikons - the instructor had a mirrorless olympus as his backup. It looked pretty swish too. Much more stylish and compact than the k-01. I have no idea what model it was.

Sorry. My fault for not explaining properly. There were a lot of novices there. He spent some time explaining to people how to change their iso/white balance settings with people one on one during the day and i think he was trying to gauge what hurdles he might face.

I never asked for assistance in that regard (course was about something else). His comment abt pentax was more in general about the brand. Does that help?

Went to a photography course today. Instructor used a canon. He asked around to see who shot what. Out of a group of 10, 7 shot canon, 2 shot nikon, and I shot pentax. (He was asking specifically so he could gauge whether he could help people specifically with their cameras).

He joked that I was on my own. And I cheekily replied, "It's ok. I'm used to it."

To his credit, he said in front of everyone how Pentax made good cameras. Which was nice to hear.

Found out that another work colleague used to shoot Pentax back in the day. His was a film camera. Didn't catch what type it was. He has now jumped ship and shoots Canon. Don't think I can bring that one back into the fold...

Meanwhile, picked up new lens off ebay today, and the guy who sold it to me used to own a k-5, but moved onto a Ricoh fixed lens camera instead.

 sounds like you live quite the life, bennyboy!:lol:

She did bring in her camera the next day. It's a k-x. She's currently after a macro lens, and I should check in with her to see if the eneloops recommendation worked for her. If it does, I think we can bring her back into the fold. I already gave her the link to the forums. :D

Hello there! Sounds like a plan =)

My work colleague brought all her gear into work today and we had a fun lunch break going through my stash. She owns a k-x. It's a lot lighter and smaller than I remember! Makes my k-50 feel like a beast...

I have now introduced her to the evils of tamrons, and I think she'll be purchasing a pentax mount macro sometime soon... she was drooling over the tamron adaptall 90mm manual i had, and has requested a list of all the lenses I was interested in selling...

I may make an lba'er out of her yet. *gleeful*

Took my camera out of my bag today and left it on my desk. Work colleague comes by and goes, "oh! you have a white one! I've been wanting on those!" Turns out she's also a Pentaxian, despite shooting a Nikon atm. She wasn't aware of all the new lines out, and we spent a happy 30 mins chatting about the k-3 etc. Going to try my best to bring her back into the fold.....:lol::lol::cool::p

It'll be nice to have someone nearby to shop talk to!

Had my first random sighting today! But i got too shy to approach. I think he might have been french? Overheard him talking to his wife.

I was sightseeing with wolfiepup in greytown, new zealand and there was a guy there with what i thought was a k5ii but when i saw how thin it was i think it was actually a ks-1? There was a lens with a green ring on it. So an af lens. But i didn't get to see more than that. Wish I'd gotten less shy/tongue tied to go up and say hi. My camera was in my backpack so i couldn't have even just made eye contact, smiled and waved the camera.. :asleep:

Spent the week in Sydney. Saw lots of tourists. All canons, a few fujis. No Pentax. Having said that - I wasn't looking especially hard...

On the flip side, managed to pick up a k mount lens at an op shop (thrift store to you americans), and declined on two m42 mounts, on two separate occasions.

I joined a buy swap sell page on facebook specific to camera gear. A quick scroll through shows me that it's all pretty much canikon, with maybe 3 posts for pentax stuff - out of *at least* 100 or so of canikon offers. And the pentax stuff they did have were either relatively new AF stuff or old camera bodies. Where's everything else in between that we shoot with?! Sure makes me feel like a dinosaur. And I'm NOT that old.... :p:eek::lol::lol::lol::cool:

That's good to know. Yet another reason to go into Sydney more often then!

Last I was in Ted's in Civic, they had some Pentax stuff. But looking online, the other major camera chains that have shopfronts in Canberra (where I could potentially talk to about a bundle deal) don't seem to stock them.

Thanks for the heads up =)

I am starting to realise Pentax is getting lower and lower on the radar here. I was looking into possibly upgrading my kit, and looked around at what stores might be able to do me a deal, and it turns out Ted's is the only one that seems to supply these days... what on earth?! How is anyone new to the world of DSLRS going to even hear about Pentax when all I see at Christmas time are bargain deals for Canikon?

On the plus side, I am slowly trying to convert my small circle of friends, and hopefully another one will be purchasing one soon!!!

:lol::lol: you beat me to the punchline, steve!

@Tsuken - yes, I noticed SpecSavers make a point of saying they have pentax lenses for their glasses. Not quite the same thing but hey...

A few weeks back we had a wedding reception and the official photographer had a pentax! Was working so couldn't stop to have a chat. Would have loved to have ogled his gear though.

I just realised the other day that when we went on holidays to China about 5 years ago with Intrepid Tours there were in fact 3 Pentax users there.:eek::eek: The guide with an istd* and a sigma 18-200, myself with my newly acquired k100d, sigma 18-55 and pentax da 50-200, and an American with a compact Pentax OptioW2.

I don't think that ever really clicked in my head until the other day when I was looking through photos from the trip.:lol::asleep:

Have also forgot to mention at wolfiepup's baptism, there was me, with my k-x and another girl with a k100d.

I need to get my memory jogged to see if I can recall any other instances where I've seen Pentaxians around. Who knows what else I've seen and forgotten about...:cool::o

I was selling camera gear at a camera fair the other week. Everyone I asked, 'what brands do you shoot?' were: 'canon, nikon, nikon, nikon, leica, nikon, leica, leica.' :asleep:

There were 2 people there who shot Pentax. Makes for hard sales, I tell you!
