Thanks RollsUp :) I had a lot of fun doing them and finding out how best to show the translucency (is that even a word?) of the beads and gemstones. I think my results were mixed so I'll keep on shooting more macro jewellery pics to learn what my lenses are capable of, especially when it's dreary and cold outside :)
Anyhoo, my time as host is now quickly drawing to a close. Thanks everyone for participating. Hope you all had a fun week (I know you guys must have - just look at all your wonderful photos!) and thanks for making my first time hosting so much fun. :D

some great shots there xjjohnno! that bokeh with the dinosaur is super cool! and the look on the musician's face! awesome!
i'm sure re the tammy 90mm that it's totally user error and nothing to do with the lens...
i also rotate my lenses on a regular basis but really there's no rhyme or reason to it. i'm about to head out to the neighbour's to be guinea pigs - they're trying out their new spit... mmMMmmm.... hopefully i'll get a chance to take some good puppy shots (they have 2 dogs as well).

cool!
it's the manual tamron sp 2.5 - yes! (I had to go and get the lens to check...:lol:)
it's a great lens with a wonderful bokeh, but a little more difficult to use than the 100mm M Pentax macro. I'm still learning how to use it properly. I noticed when playing with these bead shots that I had a lot of blurs and motion failures with the Tammy. I don't seem to recall getting that many motion fails with the 100mm Pentax. From memory I think most of the Pentax 'misses' were more focus misses than movement blur. It's interesting being able to compare the two but I definitely need to set some time aside to test them both properly :) (can you tell I'm still justifying to myself why i now own two dedicated macros in similar focal lengths...?:p)

that second one's very interesting xjjohnno. what kind of flower is that?
I've been playing around with my macro lenses and some easy lighting lately. went back to the tamron 90mm and wanted to try out some of the close up filter lenses that i'd bought aaaaages ago.
here's some of the results from me playing around.
tamron 90mm macro lens on the k100d:
and on the m 50mm 1.4 with a +4 (i think) close up lens with the kx.

hahaha... no, not me. I'm back in Canberra now that the holiday break is over. *grumbles* I hardly ever go on the M7 although I did remember to put in my cash back rebate today
Hi noelcmn,
I will admit that my attempt to individually reply to each and every post (I didn't miss anyone did I?) may have bumped up the page count more than usual... but everyone's pictures were so wonderful! And anyway, who wants to do work when I can spend my day on the forums checking out everyone's piccies instead?
sssh! Just don't tell my boss...:lol:

ah.. thanks for explaining jmschrei :)
i might try and take part next month then. i was worried i'd only be allowed one lens, with one shot per day. but if i also have the flexibility to use other lenses etc, and only make a point of posting pictures taken with one particular lens each month (eg, put the selected lens on one camera and go freeforall on the other), then that works for me. *thumbs up*
I umm.. wish I had only 12 lenses...:lol: these days i make a point of trying to stick with one lens a week in order to share some love. but it's a bit like shoes sometimes... this pair won't go with what i want to wear/shoot, and this pair, i just don't feel like wearing.. etc etc. ;):p:lol:

ah yup, volna 9. i did come across that in my travels. out of my budget (for the record, we shall ignore the fact that I already broke my budget for the other 2 macros *snarf*) and like you say xjjohnno - i don't need it.
some gorgeous sunsets you've got there reeftool! and that starry moon! yaay!
Interesting bird Bramela. I've never used a ND filter. Is that similar to a polariser?

Hrmm.. 105 2.8 macro... *covets* but no. Can't do it. I already own 2 macro lenses now. *nods to self* No More. Although I don't have a macro lens in m42 mount... but that's just splitting hairs, isn't it?

Hey jmschrei,
I had a busy weekend in Sydney - which means lots of interesting subjects to take photos of - not just trees, grass and wind turbines.:lol::lol: And when there's lot of interesting subjects to take photos of, a girl's gotta do.... :D
Having said that, last night's sunset was soooo beautiful. I sat down in front of the lappy around 10.30 thinking "I'll just quickly process these pics" and suddenly it's midnight! I still have a whole bunch of shots to go through that were taken on the kx F 35-70 which range from Saturday yet to be processed. *shakes head* Sometimes taking your camera with you everywhere isn't necessarily a good thing. Least not for my sleeping hours anyway. :p:lol:
I was just reading about the Singles thread. Trying to figure out how that works. Does that mean you're ONLY allowed to take one photo per day with ONE lens?? That doesn't work for me. I take photos daily and I have two cameras to boot. (let's not talk about the lenses... ) Or is it simply that you make a point of only posting pictures taken with one particular camera and lens per day? i.e. it doesn't stop you from using other cameras/lenses etc as well?
I love that first shot btw! Love the colour of that glass!
