niice... a tak 50 1.5? i didn't know they existed! i only have two of the lenses in your collection, the 55 1.8 and the 35 3.5. i really should give the 3.5 some more time. i've only tried it once so far.

Ok, so I tried out Mike Cash's technique this evening.

Takumar 135 2.5 (non smc) on k100d, set to infinity. One handed press down of shutter as I'm driving along - probably around about 60km/h.

Not bad, not bad...

These were my only 3 keepers. The rest were mainly cloud shots.

Fun little experiment but not sure I should be doing this on a constant basis... could get quite dangerous..

Ah yup. Okey doke. So we're talking different wind farms :) We have them dotted all over the place where I live. I love looking at them as I drive by. I've yet to get a really good evening when the lighting's perfect and I have the right lens to shoot with.

HRmm.. I wonder then if they're the same turbines. I know there are some separate ones near Gunning as opposed to the ones behind Lake George. I'm not sure - does the Melbourne-Sydney Highway reach around Lake George?

Wow Mike... that makes your shots even more impressive. One handed shooting. Makes sense to have all the settings sorted out beforehand. I tried taking a shot with my manual 100mm Pentax macro this morning in my car (you're responsible for making me try new (and dangerous) techniques). Results weren't that stellar.

Hi elpolodiablo. If you were heading towards Sydney from Canberra you would've seen those turbines on your right. But I would've taken that picture on a back road parallel to the Federal Highway on the other side of Lake George. :)

Geez. You're driving at 70km/h with both hands using a manual lens and your eye through the viewfinder??

I've taken many shots while driving over 100km/h but with a Pentax F lens. I'm getting better at lining the camera up with my eye, so a few times during a pretty sunset or whatever on the way home, I've been known to quickly click as I drive down the highway. Some of those shots turned out pretty good considering, but aren't really appropriate to put in a Takumar thread (i.e. better in the F thread.. I assume there is one, but I seem to have lost it?)

I've never been brave enough to take pics with my manual lenses in the driver's seat while moving. I've done it a few times at traffic lights (for egs see the red light thread) but that's about as far as I go.

geeez... don't you have over 50 50s as well? let me guess you have over 50 of each focal length? I SO don't have LBA... *snarf*

Yeah, I'm planning on doing the Singles challenge in Feb to give some of my lenses some proper love. Atm a lens tends to stay on my camera between 1 day and a fortnight depending on where I'm going and what I'm doing. I keep albums in picasa based on what lens I use, so I can at least see which ones are getting more love (or keepers) than others. Atm I'm trying to go back to lenses that either had a high failure rate (due to my beginner's knowledge) or lack of use to give them more attention.

I have a M42 135 - a Jupiter 37a. Last time I used it I was really happy with it. The initial plan was just to have a set of lenses that covered the entire range in both m42 and k mount. Seeing as I had the Jup and this Tak I figuredd I didn't need any more. But like I said, the last time I used the Tak I got a bit disillusioned and saw a Tamron Adaptall 135 2.8 going for a song and still feeling raw from my novice using of the Tak went why not... Maybe I should remember to never buy a lens if I've just had a bad experience with another. A bit like not going grocery shopping when you're hungry...

Anyway, this means I now have 3 135s. Do I need to go and get another m42 135 to balance it out? no no no, that's crazy talk.

Yeah, I remember when I got it, someone was saying that despite the better reviews of the SMC version they still preferred the non smc one. I've found it works lovely on portraits - the few times I've caught wolfieboy unawares. But I'm not really a people shooter.

Here's another landscape taken with the 135 that I'm happy with

Considering that this was taken handheld in a moving car going at 100+km/h, I'm pretty happy with that shot.

yeah i'm really happy with the results this time around. and this lens has filigree fungus at the edges too. i can't imagine how much better it would be if it were a mint copy!

the real question now is, what on earth am i going to do with 3 135s???

Decided to give my Takumar 135 2.5 Bayonet (non SMC version) some love. Last time I used it I got very frustrated at the failure rate and in a fit of pique went and bought another 135 with a slower aperture. Don't know what I was thinking there...

Anyway, after shooting here and there yesterday, I did the PP this afternoon, and going through the results I'm starting to wonder if perhaps I was a touch hasty.

With the inbuilt hood on, I'm pretty happy with the colour saturation.

Purple fringing and pixelation isn't all that prevalent...

Especially when you consider that it was taken handheld through a car window. Sure the plane's not all that sharp, but then again, it was heavily cropped.

The 135 also seems fairly tack sharp too, at least to my eye:

Think I might spend some more time getting to know this lens before making any more assumptions, and before I get sidetracked by my other 135 when it arrives in two weeks or so.

*nods*

it's about only getting the lenses you use right? I use telephoto quite a lot. I'm playing with an tamron adaptall 60-300 atm.

Here's a shot from my Takumar 135 2.5 with the hood on. Non SMC version.

yeah, i've seen a few go on ebay and some were probably in my price bracket. but i couldn't justify it, since i own 2 300mm primes (one which is an off brand preset), and probably, what, 3 now? yeah, 3 zooms that go up to 300mm. *nods*

i'm impressed by your shot though. like i said, it's making me itch..

i think it's a lovely photo coloradocj! i never bought a 200m prime, convincing myself a DA 50-200 covered that range... so why get one right?

your photo is tipping me over the edge.. *gulp*

Hi k0og,

Yes, I am particularly impressed with the exposure options as well as the wb with camera options - shade, cloudy, daylight, vibrant, landscape, etc etc

Still working on figuring out how to do the noise processing. so far i'm not noticing much difference when i move the sliders around.

I love that lens. I took mine out for a spin last night and viewing the pictures is always a revelation for me. It always makes me feel like a better photographer than I am.

Here's two that's cross posted from the Pet a Day thread to illustrate.
