What we are trying to get through to Ricoh, and anyone who will listen, is that making sensor shift shake reduction quieter is not necessary! I have many point and shoot decent quality videos taken with my K-5 and nobody who has seen and heard them has ever complained about camera noise. If it is a problem for certain people who strain their ears to hear such noises in quiet parts of their videos, all they have to do is turn off the shake reduction and fix any camera shake in post production. This can be done quickly, easily and cheaply with more flexibility than any built-in software SR will ever achieve. Better still, use an external microphone or audio recorder along with sensor shift SR..

It's frustrating for those of us who know there are no significant drawbacks (that we have been told about) to short sensor-shift shake reduction videos compared to software SR. But it has distinct advantages over the software SR used in K-3 and (presumably) K-1, which frankly is not fit for purpose so they may as well drop SR altogether. I hope our "whinging" as some of you call it - or logic as I prefer to call it - will filter through to Ricoh before they finalise their next APS-C DSLR at least.

Agree about a Video sub-forum - the mods could then move all these video posts into there.

But those of us who care about video, if only for occasional use, have been saying much the same thing ever since the K-3 improved some aspects of video but took a step backwards with others, especially the sensor shake reduction. That's why I use my old K-5 for short high quality handheld video filming, in preference to my K-3, even though the latter has better manual control. For tripod work, I can use the K-3 and then, the improvements show up. Just not for handheld work, and we know from K-5 that they can do better.

Maybe Ricoh will finally combine the best of K-5 and K-3 video with the next APS-C Pentax, I certainly hope so.

Almost certainly not, for most users, I have no idea what Ricoh were thinking - unless they simply ran out of development time and resources to improve the movie stuff wthout further delays, and focussed on the absolute priority of getting the stills right.

People who want decent sound with their video will use an external mic or an external audio recorder anyway, something like a Zoom say, and use the DSLR audio track for quick and easy sync when replacing it with the external one. So camera and SR sounds are irrelevant for people who want high quality video and sound. I still use my K-5 for video as the sensor SR works wonderfully well once you know its limitations and act accordingly. Software Movie SR is utter rubbish - it's as bad as the awful Youtube shake reduction.

Come on Ricoh, let's have proper sensor SR for video next time round!
