All pics are subject moving towards me with slight panning. The pics have been aggressively cropped for subject isolation. My tests have shown that the DA* 200 was actually better than the Sig with subjects moving towards me, even though reviews with other cameras say different. On the K-30, the Sig is faster, but on the K-3, not much difference.

I agree that the DA* 200mm has better color, depth, sharpness, and bokeh. As for the zoom, I was just standing closer. With the fixed lens, I stand further back. Its not an issue to zoom with my feet. Yes, purple fringing is big, but LR takes care of it. I may not have done it on that pic. The DA* due to its WR and much lighter handling size, I think wins for me. The Sigma is the 70-200mm F2.8 EX HSM.
Thanks all

Very interesting. I had not even considered the DA*300 as I figured it would limit my flexibility even more (no zoom), and the focus would be the same. Weather sealing is a major factor for me as most of my planned activities will be in dirty and dusty climates at motocross events. Not sure how the Sigma would handle dust and dirt. I figured rain can easily be solved with a bag, but dust and dirt is a concern. Good thing for B&H 30 day return policy as testing different configurations is getting expensive. I just ordered the new Sigma OS, but again dust and dirt is the concern. I thought about the DA* 60-250 as it offeres good range and flexibility, but lacks the F2.8, although the DA* 200 sweet spot seemed to be F3.5-F4.0. Bokeh is a major factor here as well. The Tamron's price is attractive, but reviews aren't stellar for focus speed and reliability. The DA* 300 may give me what I need, with a sacrifice in versatility. Anyone know a good way to protect non WR lenses?
Thanks
Here are some pics using the DA* 200 F/2.8. Quality was amazing, but focus ratio was about 30%. https://www.flickr.com/photos/68750816@N03/sets/72157646147915514/ |

It's wake-board park, riders pulled around a man-made lake via pulley instead of boats. The good guys are out everyday practicing and they have events for points and championships as well. This one is located in Little Elm, TX. I am testing out new camera/lens configurations as I am going to start doing sports photography. Those pics were with the DA-L 55-300 and DA 18-135 WR. I have some new ones with my K-30 and the DA* 200mm F/2.8 here. Looking for the best combo. I'm thinking K-3 with Sigma 70-200 2.8, or DA* 200 F/2.8. First shots are in focus, but tracking with the DA*200 and K-30 wasn't very fast. The kit lens seems to focus faster - at least on the K-3.
