Hello grhazelton - thanks for the encouraging note! There were about 10 out-takes that were out of focus. I had the camera on single shot, and focused roughly where I thought the dragonfly would end up. He really did circle around several times, stopping in more or less the same place each time, so I was able to have a few attempts. My vivitar lens is really stiff to focus on macro mode, so I just snapped the shutter when I saw he was close to being in focus in the view finder, then picked the best shots later on.

Crewl1 - I like that red dragonfly. Just learned that the blue one is called the Emperor Dragonfly.

I have this posted in POTW so hopefully cross-posting this is OK.
This dragonfly kept circling me while I was at the lake yesterday. Taken on macro on an old Vivitar Series 1 lens on my K10D. I had to manually focus and just wait until he got into view. Thankfully he was as interested in me as I was in him!
I love how the sunlight hits the dragonfly in this shot, even though the focus isn't perfect, it's one of my favourites. |
