Yeah I weighed up the 18-135,16-85 and 16-50, 50-135 a while ago. I do crave the IQ of primes though and in general prefer to frame without using a zoom.
I saw a deal and went for the 50-135mm for many reasons:
-many claim it to be the best zoom in the system, and yeah its pretty incredible
-doubles well as an event portrait/people lens
-AW
less than 50 I can currently use the 15/16/31
~35 is my favourite focal length... so the 31 is glued to the camera
the 20-40 + 50-135 combo is appealing... I don't want to sideline the 31 though!

The dilemma is outright IQ and small size 21 and/or 40
vs
Flexibility and WR 20-40
-----------
Maybe the K-5iis + 21 is still a bit big for street work... need to have a think

The 20-40mm ticks all the boxes... only hesitant about its size.
The 21mm is perhaps discrete enough for street.
I wonder if the 21 would perform better for astro too.

I do like the look of the 20-40mm... probably the zoom I covet the most... in general I prefer to avoid zooms though, in favour of primes for outright IQ and size
This image shows some of the differences in size, the 20-40 is perhaps bigger than the 31... I dont deem the 31 to be discrete, its not that heavy though https://www.flickr.com/photos/hisway306/11251474064/
A stopped down 21 might perform better than the 20-40 ?
Unfortunately the fa 43mm is not in that pic

seriously thinking of hunting down a DA 21mm or getting a 2nd body and possibly, possibly selling the DA 15
The current lenses:
15mm f4 (duplicated by the samyang 16 to some extent, but it is nice, very compact)
16mm SAMYANG f2 (got it a long time after the 15, mainly for astro/night work)
31mm f1.8 (the king, its that good, one of the main reasons I bought into the system was to one day own this)
50-135mm f2.8 (most recent acquisition, quality not too far off a prime and AW)
55mm f1.4 (using less now I have the 50-135mm, but its still a hell of a lens)
100mm f2.8 (this is also covered by the 50-135mm... but I know how sharp it is, argh - a specialist lens perhaps and rarely used)
55-300mm DA metal mount, seldom used
In contention:
DA 21 discreet/light with good IQ it seems
DA 40 same as above but it is not the FA 43
FA 43 - I've already got 31 and 55 covered.. just don't know how much I'd use it.. though it is one of the smaller lenses and magic rendering but then both 31 and 55 have good rendering qualities
2nd body... that 31 and 50-135 combo is devastating... two bodies one on each, its madness but maybe its a good madness
other
DA 20-40 awesome and WR which is a plus... but I've got an FA 31
DA 200/300 look incredible... but I don't think I'd use enough and they are a lot of £££, it seems I rarely need above 135mm
DA 60-250 similar reasons to above and also big/heavy
