For AF.C bursts that is a low number in my experience. Probably driven by your LCD usage. I switch the LCD off in those scenarios.

I remember shooting polo games with the K-1 with 1,800+ burst shots and the battery indicator was still green (though it turned yellow the day after quickly). I was expecting to be able to shoot 3,000 frames off one battery in that scenario.

Lenses play a major role there also. The Sigma 70-200 wasted much more power than any other lens I ever owned and I expect it would half the battery life compared to other lenses being better in the power consumption department.

I once did some measurements on a K-3 and 5D3. In both cases video recording for about 30 minutes brought the sensor from 22 to about 50 °C (roughly speaking, after 45 min they would go to about 55 °C). Yes, sensor noise increased substantially when checking with a dark. During normal low ISO daytime shooting this was not something that the average phonescreen image watcher would recognize though.

So I assume your comments are quite correct for DSLMs, but few people recognize it.

We are talking about what a company like Ricoh should sensibly do. There only the majority requirement is important. That in 2018 is the existence of autofocus in a lens.

Mirrorless can mean (see Nikons sad attempt):

  • old lovely lens compatibility is gone: Nikon has a crippled mount on their adapter and all screw drive lenses stop working, so much fewer AF lens options.

  • if you want native mount lenses for your mirroless it even gets worse. The manufacturer choice is tiny and 3rd party makers such as Sigma have stated that they currently have no plans for Z mount.

Its naive to assume mirroless enhances lens options if you want even basic AF. Mirrorless cripples AF lens choice.

There is a good reason why over years and years mirrorless customer numbers have not grown. It's still a dinosaur with new clothes.

The D7500 has a "crippled F mount" now in Pentax-language, so it can't use Ai (exact same featureset as K and M lesnes on a Pentax).
The normal consumer cameras D3xxx, D5600 (introduced at 820 EUR) are crippled even more as they cant even use screw-drive lenses.
Z7 only have an adapter without motor, so here even a 3,850 EUR camera is unable to autofocus a screwdrive lens, let alone use Ai.

We still have a market. So unless someone can actually provide solid evidence against it, prices are driven by demand first.

Camera manufacturer lenses always (even with the exact same specs) can demand a massive +30%-50% premium on top of what 3rd party lenses can be priced at.
The market simply does not value 3rd party lenses a lot, regardless of some internet geeks' little personal opinions.

If someone doesnt like this then dont buy it incl. any system. Whining about it is just childish and disqualifies the whiners. It simply is like it is, regardless if we like it or not.

All the recent DSLMs have just gotten fatter and more clunky to the point of not showing any size advantage any longer.

The same goes for DSLM FF lenses, some of which (see Nikon Z) are now 2x the size of same DSLR lenses and not even good performers.

--> 100 people will define the optimum of size versus quality in 100 different ways.
--> for the FF large size seems a complete non-issue for 90% of the market assuming Canon and the small players have access to market reserach data on this.

I feel no sympathy for anyone waiting for potential sometime-in-the-future products of any type, least of all people older than 18 years. It makes me wonder about the term "common sense".

There is no "should have been". The manufacturer publicly hinted at when the 3-4 years started. Most probably sometime in 2017. Not exactly rocket science from there on.

This thread is nonsense as a "rumor" or "news" thread.
It is only a little gadget-nerd boys name their wishlists for father christmas thing.

Extrapolating from what was ever said by Ricoh about it (close to nothing) and from the typical development to market timeframes of 3-4 years, there won't be a K-3 style camera this year or H1/2019. Maybe not in 2019 at all.

Stomping the little feet and throwing on the ground screaming is not going to change this.

Just relax, improve photograohy skills and if and when something shows up in stores, consider it.

That would be a lot of fun. But I would rather go for the math symbols, so nobody knows how to say it.

So I'd love to see the following three models and model names: :D

Go figure, which is the top line and which is entry level.

Please read more carefully. I never said anything about "sure". I just said there are signs. You read the tea leaves as much as anybody else here.

As has been said elsewhere already: There are signs, there won't be a K-3II sucessor this year (neither before nor after photokina). If, it will likely be 2019 thing.
