"Image resolution" of a black fly in a dark tunnel shot at a shutter speed of 1 second is as good as that of an elephant in sunlight, yes.
Subject detail is not.

If you cut a pixel into 4 smaller ones and later crop down to 1/4 then this only is an advantage for subject detail resolving if the subject has moved half as far, or you will see smeared small pixels over the original area. Nothing won.

That is why high res is less good for photographers shooting action than for landscape, art, fashion, real estate, macro etc.

"Cropability" depends on a combination of Pixelcount, max dynamic range at the user preferred ISO, noise at the user preferred ISO, AA filter, specific lens used and velocity of subject.

I seem to recollect you favor shooting moving animals where the last part is important. Higher Pixelcount is impacted more negatively (by moving subjects) by just the reverse amount you theoretically gain by more cropping, so it does cancel out. Then on top you get the purely negative effects of all the other factors.

The smearing caused by AA filters (I think both the new Canon and the latest Sony still suffer from AA filters) is significant enough alone when looking at such tiny increases in pixelcount anyway.

Side comment:
While we talk about it all the time there is practically no robust definition of "sharpness" out there as this is a term highly dependend on subjective human visual perception.
The best approximation I ever found was that it is a mixture (of unknown weighing) of detail resolution (high frequency contrast, e.g. MTF10, MTF20 or so) and micro contrast (low frequency contrast, e.g. MTF30 or higher).

And yes, older lenses with older coating types usually fail on the micro contrast side, while their detail resolving power is not bad.

For the same reasons that a Canon forum may talk about a Canon 50 mm lens while Pentax already has a 43 mm lens.

one iphone 8 camera cost around $16 and I assume most car cameras are far less sophisticated than a most recent smartphone camera.
So $10 per camera seems appropriate.

Evidence in the numbers is that Canon and Nikon just succeed at moving their own DSLR customers over to DSLM, but not gaining any new ones.
All this for a massive investment. --> huge costs, no gain.

The question for customers like us is: Do we want to make the same mistake by switching mounts: huge costs, no gain?

The early makers (Panasonic, Olympus, Sony) are beyond their best days in sunshine as now DSLM is overcrowded in a collapsing total market.
Just imagine you lost 1/3 of market share in a handful months like Sony did. That is worse than the collapse of music records ever was.

That is why they all try to diversify away from their dwindling camera business.

Only that is no metric you can use to prove anything.

Action / sports is relevant for 1 out of 10 Pentaxians.
Macro is 5 out of 10.
This is actual data from the user survey last year.

That is a low relevancy personal wish except the noise part, obviously.

No.

They need to fullfill the requirements of the vast majority of APSC K-5/K-3 users. Those are allround flagships.

Sports/action snapshots is relevant for a niche of 1 out of 10 Pentaxians, so its all gimmicky things like a pink outside.
While it is not bad to address irrelevant small niches as well, they need to focus on the requests of the majority.

It is normal for kids to claim their personal wishes (the SD bus-comedy in this thread is one hilarious example) are "the important thing", but they are not in reality.

A feature for focus stacking for example would be much more desired than some aspects helping just the spray & pray kiddies, since macro shooting is much more relevant overall.

*facepalm*

Repeating your personal opinion over and over again doesn't make it a fact. It just makes it look like a very silly opinion.

Oh, it is not about the high art of ratatatatatatata shooting of random generated snapshots? :p
I always thought that is only somewhat inferior to the true art of selfies, but still a great art.

The more quantity of shots you generate, the better you are. No?

It's like a top restaurant: It's all about the quantity.

I couldn't care less about a new sensor or card write speeds and I certainly am not alone.
