Yiptwo those shots are excellent! And no slight to MegaPower's earlier efforts, either. Reminds me of a night shot I had posted on Flickr, which I thought was pretty decent, but got very few comments or views. Turns out about a week earlier, (unbeknownst to me), one of the more popular photographers on our local Flickr group had posted a shot of the same subject, although with a different angle and composition. People probably thought I was plagiarizing his idea, but it just happened to be a very attractive subject. (My version was better IMO, LOL!)
GD Roth, is that not the church near Oakwood & Beech, in Dearborn? Looks familiar. I like that last one the best, very nice!

Haven't gotten out much for any photography lately, but I did spend a little time at the local Metro Park recently. Thought I'd need a tripod for the tree shot, but with the DA 15 being so small and light I was able to go hand-held!

Shot at f22, which looked a little dark on the first try, so I used a 540 for fill on the binoculars.

Good stuff Matt! Nice lens combo, I sometimes use the DA 15 plus the FA 43, very compact and light yet with a lot of capability, and great IQ. I haven't been able to do any skiing for a couple of years now, but that last shot really does it for me- outstanding!

Wow, can't argue with the beautiful color and contrast, especially for that photo on the right- but either there's "a bit" of distortion or else she has a reaaal hard time finding shoes in size 20! ;)

Speaking of shooting flat charts, and "disappointing results", don't forget that even a wide angle lens like this may need AF adjustment for BF/FF. So even though it's always better to get out and take some shots in the real world, it also pays to do some initial testing on a new lens purchase. It turns out that my copy likes +4 AF Adjust, on my K20D. Perhaps some of the "underwhelmed" impressions of the DA 15 have to do with this? Just a thought.

I noticed this exact behavior the other night, but attributed it to a missed focus due to the low light levels. I used the Quickshift to manually focus at infinity and the resulting images were much sharper. Thanks for that information!

PM sent. And I second that recommendation for the FA 43!

Andi that is a beautiful shot! As far as the DA12-24 vs DA 15 Ltd, I think that controversy has been done to death, but IIRC the MTF values that I saw on Photozone favored the DA 15. (Of course that's probably talking center sharpness)... Anyway my copy of the DA 15 seems comparable to the DA 12-24 in sharpness. The popular opinion that the 15 boils down to compact and portable, compared to the 12-24, is partly true, but for me it's worth owning both. For one thing, the 15 focuses way closer than the 12-24, which allows for a bit more creativity. Plus, since it IS a lot more compact and lightweight, you can easily hand-hold at some ridiculously slow shutter speeds, compared to the zoom, and still get nice sharp images. When I first got into Pentax I was all about zooms, but I'm really starting to appreciate some of these great little primes!

Thanks for the reply. Hhmm, yes well, if I could only have TWO lenses (yea right!), the DA 12-24 would be one of them. Not a lot of disposable income right now so I may have to rethink my urge to "submit order". ;) I appreciate your input though!

I've been following this thread and my LBA for the DA 15 is reaching unreasonable levels! But I already have the DA 12-24, and the DA*16-50... For any of you who also own/have owned these other lenses (or similar that also cover nearly the same focal length), would you recommend the DA 15 be added to my collection? At some point I'm looking to simplify my kit, and I'm thinking the DA 15 plus the FA 43 could be a nice little combo that would cover a lot of situations. With the DA 15 I'm very impressed how well it does shooting into the sun, along with it's shorter minimum focus distance compared to the zooms. Opinions?
